A belated welcome to season, we want to honor this fire sign with the best of the best! Aries are daring, courageous, optimistic and stand up for themselves and what they believe in. Will the Aries faves show these traits? C'mon in to find out!
Faves
Mariah Carey, March 27
The elusive chanteuse, Mariah recently appeared in a Lifetime movie where it looks like she was filmed separately the whole time with the most incredible blur filter that you wonder why she even bothered. She’s one of the best-selling music artists of all time and is famous for her ability to use the whistle register. She has a residency in Las Vegas and just started a tour.
Maya Angelou, April 4
Author, poet, actor, singer, and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou’s voice is an integral part of United States history. She worked with both MLK Jr. and Malcolm X, wrote seven autobiographies, and her work is an important part of curriculums across the United States. She spoke out on behalf of black people and women and her words will echo into the future.
Leonard Nimoy, March 26
A personal favorite of yurasama_love, Leonard Nimoy entered our hearts and the realm of pop culture forever as Mr. Spock, the half-Vulcan, half-human member of the starship Enterprise. Though the show ran for only three seasons (and was in fact canceled after two; a passionate letter writing campaign brought it back) it’s effect was enormous, both on Nimoy and on the general public. The Spock role followed him forever, leading to him writing two books: I Am Not Spock and I Am Spock. He was an accomplished stage actor, voice actor, photographer, director, and writer. He died due to complications of COPD in 2015.
Heath Ledger, April 4
An amazing actor, he probably won the majority of ONTD hearts with his role in 10 Things I Hate About You, where he is aggressively charming. He earned critical acclaim with his portrayal of a conflicted gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain and went on to nab the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight. Proving all the naysayers wrong with his manic and nuanced portrayal of the Joker, setting a gold-standard for live action Jokers everywhere, he never lived to see his success. Sadly he passed away in January of 2008 of an accidental drug overdose. He is still missed by family, friends, and fans.
Lee Pace, March 25
The Piemaker! Lee Pace’s TV show death curse is broken with Halt and Catch Fire, but this man of luxurious eyebrows has been catching hearts for a long time. A common collaborator with Bryan Fuller, he worked with him in Wonderfalls and the excellent Pushing Daisies (sadly murdered by the writer’s strike). He’s worked in some indie films like Soldier’s Girl and The Fall, but has been in huge blockbuster hits like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Hobbit films.
Tim Curry, April 19
Best known for his portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Tim Curry has alternately entertained and terrified us in his multiple roles. He’s a prolific voice actor as well, providing voices to some childhood favorites such as Gargoyles, Paddington Bear, Dinosaurs, Mighty Max, Captain Planet, and The Wild Thornberrys. Though he suffered a stroke several years ago, Tim Curry is returning to Rocky Horror Picture Show as the Criminologist.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, April 14
Buffy herself, SMG has been acting since she was a child. Her first major role was as Kendall Hart in All My Children, but it was as Buffy that she earned worldwide recognition. She also starred in I Know What You Did Last Summer, died in Scream 2, and was amazing in Cruel Intentions. She recently had two flop shows, Ringer and The Crazy Ones, and is gearing up for a third, a TV show based on Cruel Intentions. We still love her though.
Lucy Lawless, March 29
More like Lucy Flawless. This New Zealander is iconic for her character of Xena: Warrior Princess which had women at the front and center kicking ass. They say Aries are fighters, and with Xena as an Aries, there is no doubt of this claim!
Honorable Mentions: Keira Knightley, Celine Dion, Reba McEntire, Beverly Cleary, David Tennant, Peter Capaldi, Cobie Smulders, Chloe Bennet, Shay Mitchell (RIP tuggernuts), Sarah Jessica Parker, Paul Rudd, Robert Carlyle, Daisy Ridley, Saoirse Ronan, Jessica Chastain, Graham Norton, Rachel Maddow, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Marlon Brando, Robin Wright, Keri Russell, Reese Witherspoon, Constance Wu, Hugo Weaving, Leighton Meester, Rick Moranis, and Adam Scott.
Remember everyone, there’s a LOT of great Aries’ and if we had descriptions for all of them, the post would be too long. If your fave is not in the honorable mentions, then put them in the comments! And a happy happy birthday to all of our ONTD Arians!
