Did you know you can work out and contribute to energy conservation efforts at the same time? It’s true. With SportsArt’s revolutionary line of Eco-Powr equipment, you can turn the calories burned in your workout into real kilowatts of energy. As more fitness centers utilize Eco-Powr ellipticals, cycles and more, the cumulative results are immense. According to a report by Yahoo Sports, more people prefer working out in eco-friendly environments than traditional, energy consuming settings. You may see a video about Eco-Powr equipment and how they work in the video player above.
SportsArt Vice President Ivo Grossi spoke about the survey and described how Eco-Power equipment works.
“SportsArt’s ECO-POWR cardio line turns human energy into utility grade electricity through a micro-inverter similar to the technology found in solar panels and wind turbines. When plugged into a power outlet, the equipment will convert human energy into electricity — this can produce up to 160 kilowatts of utility grade electricity per unit per hour which allows gyms to create incentive programs for their members and save money.”
According to the survey’s results, 62.4 percent of those surveyed prefer working out in an eco-friendly facility. Check the video playlist below for examples of SportsArt Eco-Powr exercise equipment in action.

The survey revealed that many people felt that working out in an environmentally friendly facility was an incentive or boon to a gym membership. Many people who care about their health also care about the state of the environment and using eco-friendly equipment makes sense. The survey also revealed that people who worked out with eco-friendly equipment that would convert into energy used to power the gym would be motivated during their workouts to expend greater energy. If consumers knew that their direct efforts would be converted to energy and in turn be used as electricity for the gym where they exercised, they would work harder.

Eco-Power ellipticals, treadmills and cycles are used in approximately 400 facilities and hotels across the nation with plans for that number to double this year. In addition to using SportsArt equipment in fitness centers and gyms, many are purchasing units for their home workouts The savings in electricity often make the equipment worth the investment. Fitness centers can use the SportsArt eco-calculator to determine how many kilowatts are being converted and how that translates into energy savings. The eco-calculator is based upon how many pieces of equipment are in the facility and how many hours per day they are used. SportsArt Vice President Ivo Grossi released a statement regarding the equipment and the benefits of using the eco-calculator.
“Gyms need to look at additional ways to motivate their members to work out – incorporating sustainable solutions such as an incentive program can be highly successful in doing so. Not only will our equipment provide gym members with discounts, but gyms will be able to save money in the long term – owners can calculate their potential savings using SportsArt’s eco-calculator.”
