Michael Sam, one of the final picks during this year's NFL draft, began to doubt whether or not he'd make the pros.He also began to doubt whether or not he should have come out publicly as a gay man before the draft.
'I was second guessing myself that maybe football would turn its back on me,' Sam said in an interview that aired today on ABC's Good Morning America.
'I was like, Maybe I shouldn't have done what I did. You know?' he said. 'I had so many emotions going in my head. And then I felt a touch over my shoulder and it was Vito,' he said, speaking of his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano.
'I was like, I don't care what happens. You know, I know I did the right thing in my heart. And whatever happens, happens. I'm just going to move forward.'
The draft would have a happy and emotional ending for Sam as he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams. He began training camp with the Rams today 12 pounds lighter than he was on draft day. 'I'm so excited to finally to get the opportunity to do what I love.'
