The brilliant and insanely simple anti-theft device used by Japanese convenience stores

When visiting a Japanese bank, convenience store, or post office, you’ll notice a curious ball on the counter. It isn’t for sale and you really shouldn’t touch it.


Though it looks like nothing more than a child’s toy, the fluorescent balls are used to deter would-be thieves.
