IS NEW MOVIE ’50 SHADES OF GREY’ GLORIFYING (BDSM) AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Christian and Anastasia

According to Time’50 Shades of Grey’ is one of the most wildly anticipated movies of 2015, but domestic violence activists say there’s a better use of your money. They are advocating a campaign where the consumer is paying $50 dollars on a donation to domestic violence centers then the ’50 Shades of Grey’ movie, popcorn and snacks. The donations can be made at their Facebook page 50dollarsnot50shades. An interview with The Washington Heights revealed

’50 Shades of Grey’ media reports are glamorizing the movie, reports Dawn Hawkins, executive director of Morality in Media, and PornHarms.com. The report says that,

Americans may not realize it, but bondage, dominance, sadomasochism (BDSM) and kink scenes are part of mainstream pornography, she said.

She continued by saying,

Both hard-core pornography and (BDSM) have a lot of deviant, violent material, that is cruel and degrading to women, and treats women as objects, and not in any way equal.

The plot revolves around the handsome, and worldly Christian Grey, who meets the young and innocent Anastasia Steele. Anastasia has never met anyone as handsome, adventurous, or as unpredictable as Christian. ’50 Shades of Grey’ also reveals that as time goes on Anastasia begins to see another side of Christian. A side that terrifies her, but also excites her. As reported by the Inquisitr lead actor Jamie Dornan prepared for his lead role in ’50’ by going to sex dungeons to watch the show. He said,

he actually saw a dominate with two submissive women. Although Jamie never participated in these scenes, he would go home and wash himself thoroughly before touching his wife or newborn daughter.

In the movie ’50 Shades of Grey’, Jamie portrays Christian Grey who uses what some are calling manipulation, jealousy, violence, and violence to control the naive Ana. While some are calling this absolutely appalling, and something that inspires sexual violence and degradation towards women. Fox News reports that other women are fantasizing about being controlled, and the violence of Christian Grey. The popularity and fascination with ’50 Shades of Grey’ is also concerning that the wrong message is being sent to men. It’s showing them that unrestrained domination is what all women want, which is not actually the case.

’50 Shades of Grey’ is opening the eyes of many people, and it is also opening a line of debate and communication about the subject of the thin line between violence and what women really want. If women do not consider these acts of (BDSM) sexual abuse, then should they really be made an example of by domestic and sexual violence organizations, or should every women have the right to choose what happens privately in their own bedroom?
