ONTD Original: Musicians Whose Careers Deserved Better

We've all seen it. The promising singer/songwriter with a smash hit and a number one album. Critics have hailed them the second coming, or the next best thing. Fans eagerly awaited or bopped to their latest singles, wanting more. But somehow, over time, you suddenly just stop hearing about them. Their singles start to stall, albums get delayed, tours get cancelled due to the star being "too busy". Lets take a look back at some musicians whose careers deserved better ONTD

Ashanti

The first lady of Murder Inc and the real vocals for some of J.lo's biggest hits, made quite a splash in the early 2000s. Believe it or not, there was one time that a certain source said that Beyonce was a wannabe Ashanti. We all remember her iconic "baby" lyrics and obligatory Ja Rule cameos. Towards the mid to late 2000s, Murder Inc dissolved (thanks G-Unit) and Ashanti's career seemed to dissolve with it. She tried to make many comebacks through the years but it seems like the public has long since forgotten about her.

Mya

Mya made her face known in the late 90s and early 2000s with her sweet vocals and underrated dance moves. She even won a Grammy for her involvement in the remake of Lady Marmalade. But like many other promising pop tarts, Mya's career began to take a bit of a stumble. Through the record label turmoil, Mya's albums seemed to continuously get delayed. She made a few attempts at acting and got 2nd place on Dancing With The Stars

Ciara

Ciara was one of the biggest things in R&B when she hit the scene with the bop of the century "Goodies". She continued her success with songs such as "Like A Boy". And lets not forget her flawless dance moves that rival some of the best. However, despite all the ingredients to be a global star, Ciara's career has long since taken a backseat in the public eye. She's continued on, and released some of the best and most underrated R&B jams. She's also continues to low-key slay the current pop girls dance-wise.

Christina Aguilera

Now, I know you guys are wondering why she's on here, but let's be real for a second. Ms.Aguilera's career deserves to be MUCH bigger than it is. Back in the late 90s, Christina was the boom after the rocket (Britney) took off and continued to undeservingly drown in her shadow. She's given us a variety of sounds and genres throughout her career. As the Bionic era came looming in, her career unfortunately seemed to be a little rocky with unfair comparisons to Mother Monster and messy promotion, single released and tours. She's now a judge on The Voice, and hopefully going to slay us all in the future with her upcoming album.

Missy Elliot

Back in the early 2000s, nobody could escape Miss Demeanor's pussy popping jams. She was revolutionary in both her look and sound. Sadly, over the years, she's been missing from the airwaves. Thanks to the music gods, she made a musical comeback this year. Hopefully this hints at new music.

Carly Rae Jepsen

In the summer of 2013, NOBODY could escape the summer jam "Call Me Maybe". It was everywhere and at some point you found yourself bopping to it. Sadly, Carly's career didn't pop the way it should have and her overlooked album "Kiss" contained some flawless pop jams but nobody was checking for it.
