Ben Affleck promotes Gone Girl

Rosamund Pike on working with Ben: "Very handsome, very clever. He's very politically astute and thoughtful. He is probably funnier than people realise. When we first were doing makeup tests I thought, 'This guy could be a standup comedian.' He has characters and impersonations, accents. He quickly crystallizes you. He's very fun. He's obviously got a son now, but you can feel he is surrounded by girls in his house. We would be in the makeup trailer and we very quickly got to talking about very gossipy female things and he just gets right stuck in it.

Carrie Coon on playing Ben's twin sister: "Ben is extraordinary, he's really fun. He does great impersonations, he's really helpful when you're a new person on set like me and one of the smartest people I know. He doesn’t have a sister in real life, so his inquiries into what it’s like to have a brother or sister were really sweet, and by the end of the shoot, he was giving me a punch in the arm or we were wrestling. He was very brotherly. He reminds me a lot of my own brothers who are funny, smart, and sarcastic dudes."

David Fincher on casting Ben: "What many people don’t know is that he’s crazy smart, but since he doesn’t want that to get awkward, he downplays it. I think he sort of tempers how people react to him; he’s cautious about that. He doesn’t want to make anybody feel bad. I think he learned how to skate on charm. It’s fun to watch somebody who is so willing to sublimate themselves in order to make everything better – or more lubricated – and put him in a situation where he’s got to speak for himself.”

Ben on his wife's involvement: "She had read the book. She's friends with Reese [Witherspoon, the movie's producer], very good friends. The kids hang out and stuff. But there was never any question when I knew David was doing it. I would have done the phonebook with David."

Ben Affleck Sends His Best Wishes to Pal George Clooney

Ben Affleck could not attend friend and colleague George Clooney's wedding, because he was working and doing press obligations for Gone Girl.

He told ET Canada, "Some people have to work! Everybody else gets to be in Venice. But he found a great girl and I'm happy for them. I wish them the best."

Sending his well wishes from afar for now, Affleck's friend Matt Damon is there to tell him all about it later.
