They say the best records come from heartache and pain, and Keyshia Cole proves that statement to be true with her latest single, “Remember (Part 2).”
Back in 2007, Keyshia Cole had us feeling a certain type of way when she belted out the lyrics, “I remember when my heart broke/ I remember when I gave up loving you/ My heart couldn’t take no more of you/ I was sad and lonely,” on one of her biggest tracks to date, Remember. Seven years later, she’s back, where she left off before her marriage — heartbroken — and she’s releasing those heart-wrenching emotions on the song’s sequel.
On the track, she sings to her estranged husband Daniel “Boobie” Gibson:
And I just can’t take no more
It just ain’t meant to be
Before I leave I gotta tell you
And I know we got a lot of things on the line
Like I said, it don’t seem right
Things ain’t playing out, things ain’t adding upI don’t know if I even miss you
Don’t want to kiss you
how can you love somebody?
And everything just changes
I don’t even know if you rememberAll the things that you told me
Everything that you told me
Everything you said we’d be
Don’t you remember?
Don’t you remember?
I literally almost threw my phone across the room the first time I heard this track. Keyshia is singing as though her life depended on it! This is the conviction that people say is missing in today’s R&B. The choir at the end was a nice final touch.

Fourth quarter R&B is sounding pretty good.
