Texting with someone new is almost always awkward and one-sided—whether you're in high school or Hollywood. Case in point? Back in April 2011, Aziz Ansari exchanged phone numbers with Blake Lively (!), only, as the Parks and Recreation star revealed on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show Monday, the Gossip Girl star wasn't really interested in too much textual contact.
So how exactly did Aziz, 31, and the now married and pregnant star, 27, connect in the first place? "I was at some event sometime and I had heard Blake Lively was a fan," Aziz recalled. "I said, 'hello,' and, we talked for a little while, and she was really nice, and she was really into food, and I'm really into food, and so we started talking about that and about stuff...and we exchanged phone numbers."
Shortly after that friendly meeting, he fired off a friendly text, writing, "Hey, it's Aziz. The animal dinners are over now unfortunately but I will show you photos from when I went. It was very tasty. Are you going to the Met Ball?"
After receiving "no response" from the blond beauty, who married Ryan Reynolds in 2012, Aziz saw her "a couple days later" (May 2) at the Met Ball. "I see her there, I'm like, 'Hey, it's me,'" he recalled. "And she's bopping around to all these parties and she's with Karl Lagerfeld...so, [later] I'm texting her like, to see where she's at—this is about 11 o'clock that night, and I text her again and say, 'Hey, it's Aziz. Please tell Karl he needs to call me, it's been too long since we bro'd out.'"
Admittedly, Aziz told Howard, he got "nothing, again," from Blake! "And then later, I guess I saw her again, and I sent another message late-night, saying, 'I'm going to the Boom Boom Room for that afterparty. Hopefully this is your number? Either way, good seeing you.'"
