Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are being sued by the former nanny, and new details about the case have now been revealed. According to Rumor Fix, Simonette DaCosta has filed a lawsuit claiming that she was overworked and underpaid, and that she was let go because she was “overly affectionate” with Carey and Cannon’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe, now 3-years-old.
“Her job was ‘feeding, bathing, comforting’ the twins. She claims she was on call 24 hours a day, ‘Ms, Carey would not tolerate any delay when she called and plaintiff hd to attend to her every demand, spontaneous or otherwise,'” the paperwork alleges.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may be forced to pay overtime for DaCosta, who says that she was forced to work well over 100 hours a week, and was not properly compensated for that time. Carey is also being sued by her former housekeeper, Ylser Oliver, who claims that she was not paid for 4,000 hours of overtime that she worked.
According to Us Weekly, DaCosta worked for Carey and Cannon from October 2013 until Jan. 26, 2014. It’s unknown if DaCosta ever confronted Carey or Cannon about her long work weeks, or if there was ever a conversation about extra compensation, but it sounds like things ended suddenly, and DaCosta is trying to get the money that she feels she deserves. Naturally there are two sides to every story, and a rep for Carey had no comment.
DaCosta is seeking “unpaid overtime wages, premium wages, liquidated damages, reasonable attorneys’ fees, costs, pre-judgement interest, and all other appropriate legal relief under the law.”
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have their own issues to deal with in addition to these lawsuits. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the couple is set to divorce as Cannon filed paperwork back in December.
“Nick filed court documents 10 days after Mariah showed up three hours late for the NBC tree lighting taping. Sources say that she was frazzled when she arrived, and that she was on the phone (likely with lawyers) trying to figure out some details of her divorce. Now the world knows that was probably the case indeed.”
Do you think Mariah and Nick will end up having to pay their nanny the money they supposedly owe her? Do you blame the nanny (and the housekeeper) for speaking up? Do you think celebrities often take advantage of their employees?
