Mariah Carey returns to Sony Music under L.A. Reid

Just months shy of the 10-year anniversary of The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah Carey and L.A. Reid are prepping another kind of comeback. The newly-emancipated chanteuse is returning to Sony Music through Epic Records, where Reid has served as chairman since 2011. The two last worked together when Reid, the former head of Island Def Jam, oversaw Mimi's 2005 comeback album. The seven albums Mariah has released through Sony have sold a combined 43.9 million albums, according to Nielsen Music, including the septuple-platinum Music Box and Daydream.

The multi-album deal will see Carey's first new material through Sony since 1999's Rainbow. Mariah is set to begin with a greatest-hits album to coincide with her upcoming residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Dubbed "#1's", the concert series begins May 6 and will include all 18 of Carey's Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers.

Despite the messiness that has been Mariah's career in recent years, we can take hope in that she ended 2014 on a positive note, selling out a six-night residency at New York's Beacon Theatre that grossed a combined $1.5 million. Here's to 2015 and Mariah's chance at scoring her third consecutive Song of the Decade.
