Chelsea Clinton has opened up to People Magazine and Elmo about bonding with new baby Charlotte.
I’m so happy being a mom!” Clinton said.
“I have a beautiful baby daughter named Charlotte.I try really hard to be a good mommy. I think it’s the most important job in the world,” Clinton shared with the adorable red monster Elmo on a new video.
“My husband Marc and I read to Charlotte every night, and when her grandparents come over, they read to her as well. It’s so important that little kids, kids Charlotte’s age, and kids your age, Elmo, be read to and talked to and sung to. It helps their brains develop,” Clinton shared with Elmo.
Clinton, 34, recently went back to work as the Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation. Her goal is to spread the world that talking is teaching. She plans on meeting that goal through a new partnership between Clinton’s Too Small To Fail initiative, Text4baby and the Sesame Street Workshop. The partnership will offer parents helpful tips and links to educational videos through text, reports Time.
Clinton practices what she preaches. She says that she starts talking to baby Charlotte as soon as she wakes up.
“I start talking to her, when I’m changing her diaper in the morning and when we’re picking out what clothes she’s going to wear for the day,” Clinton explains.
“I read her the news every morning. She agrees with me on everything right now,” Clinton said smiling.
Marc Mezvinsky, Clinton’s husband, also loves to read to Charlotte.
“My husband has so much fun taking on all these different characters. Everyone ends up giggling.”
Clinton says that her parents, former president bill Clinton, and the secretary of state Hillary Clinton also help out with Charlotte, reports People.
“We all kind of compete to see who’s going to read her stories,” Clinton says.
Clinton added that her mom sings to Charlotte even though when she was a toddler she had issues with Hillary’s singing voice.
“I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry, Mom. I love watching her sing to Charlotte,” Clinton said.
Clinton says that her father loves to take Charlotte on talking tours of her New York City apartment.
“He loves walking up and down the hallway with her (past our bookshelves) every time pointing out a different book to her and telling her that someday she’ll be old enough to read that book herself. It’s so sweet.”
When asked if she knew if her mom would run for president in 2016 she said “No, I’m waiting too. It’s really sweet how my mom is just so clearly happy being a grandma and I know she’s going to be a great grandma, whatever other choices she makes in her life.”
