Since Michael Jackson was linked to the break-up of Guns-‘N’-Roses in late March, fans have been responding in full force. While the alleged incident relies upon the word of the Guns-‘N’-Roses manager, it looks like Michael Jackson was completely innocent. However, what is sad is that Michael Jackson’s relationship mishaps with Guns-‘N’-Roses could have meant he got left out of metal music completely.
In summary, Michael Jackson asked Slash from Guns-‘N’-Roses to perform with him, and Axl Rose got mad about it. Mainly, it was due to the fact that in 1991, when the incident between Slash and Axl occurred, Michael Jackson was still being accused of being a child molester.
Although the charges were dropped and Michael Jackson was exonerated in 2005, in 1991, claims were being made against Michael Jackson for being a sexual abuser. In particular, this was due to the media meltdown that occurred around an unauthorized biography about Michael Jackson called The Magic and the Madness, by J. Randy Taraborrelli, that was published in mid-1991.
The problem was that Axl Rose was sexually abused as a child — and felt that the allegations against Michael Jackson in 1991 were true. All of this was imparted by Rolling Stone Brazil in an interview that they did with the former manager of Guns-‘N’-Roses, Doug Goldstein.
VH1 translated the article, and published the information about Michael Jackson’s alleged role in the break up of Guns-‘N’-Roses. They state that Goldstein said, “In 1991, we were on the road, and Slash went to my office and said ‘I’ll be leaving tomorrow to play with Michael Jackson on a tribute concert.’ I told him not to do it because Axl was molested by his father when he was two and he believed the charges against Michael Jackson. [sic]”
Goldstein continues to talk about the break up and stated the following.
“When Axl found out Slash was going to play with Michael Jackson and that the payment was a big screen TV, he was devastated. He thought Slash would support him and be against all abuse. From the point of view of Axl, that was the only problem. He could ignore the drugs and the alcohol, but could never the child abuse. [sic]”
In the end, Goldstein seemed to imply that Michael Jackson did not directly break up Guns-‘N’-Roses, but, looking back, it was one of the first signs that the band would break up.
Since that time, Michael Jackson fans have been posting on Twitter that they are not “stupid” fans — and other types of defense. Mainly, this is due to the fact that many readers are focusing on information that Michael Jackson was at one time accused for child molestation — but stood trial and had the charges dropped in 2005. Readers that are new to Michael Jackson can easily overlook this important bit of news, to the chagrin of true Michael Jackson fans.
A good example is a tweet from @StevenH2OMan that says, “Well, now I’m really upset that Michael Jackson (allegedly) molested children!”
Is there any more to this story about Michael Jackson and Guns-‘N’-Roses? It turns out that collaborating with Slash on his song “Black or White” was not the only thing Slash had in mind for Michael Jackson.
In 2010, an interview with Slash about Michael Jackson was published by Anti-Music that states the following.
“The record was being made right around the time he passed on [in 2009]… Before that happened, he was getting ready to do those shows at the O2 in London. I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny to have Michael Jackson do a heavy metal song.’ “
Doug Goldstein has said in an article that he blames Michael Jackson for the split of Guns ‘N’ Roses. Sit down, man. Shut up.
