This Photo of Jay Z as an "Instagram Husband" Is Going Viral For All the Right Reasons

In case you missed it, Beyoncé took to her blog to share a bunch of new photos from her recent time in Paris, and one of the pictures in particular has people screaming. Basically, Jay Z was outed as the world's most famous "Instagram husband" this week - and even though we already knew how much the rapper loves to snap photos of his superstar wife (and superstar daughter), it was still pretty adorable to see how seriously he takes getting Beyoncé's good side. Of course, once the photo made the rounds, it wasn't long before people began reacting in hilarious ways, and as is customary for social media, some truly amazing tweets were created. Keep reading to see some of the best ones now.

Britney Spears Claims to Have Never Met Taylor Swift Despite Definitely Having Met Taylor Swift

During an interview with Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O on Monday, Britney Spears was asked if she'd rather hang out with Taylor Swift or Katy Perry. The always-diplomatic Britney responded that she'd "rather fly with Taylor," due to the fact that she's "never met her before." The only issue with her comment is that at some point, she's definitely met Taylor Swift before. The evidence lies in a series of photos of the stars at the MTV VMAs back in 2008, which show a shy-looking Taylor approaching Britney in her seat for a picture. It's possible that the fact slipped Britney's mind; after all, she would have met Taylor before her iconic "I'mma let you finish" moment with Kanye West, which we've since learned is the event that "made her famous" to begin with. Hopefully this isn't the start of some sort of Mariah Carey/Jennifer Lopez "I don't know her" beef.

Chloë Grace Moretz Has Brooklyn Beckham's Support as She Wins Big at the Teen Choice Awards

Chloë Grace Moretz took home the Teen Choice Award for choice movie actress in a comedy for her hilarious role in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and had the support of her boyfriend, Brooklyn Beckham. After taking the stage to thank fans for her win, Chloë headed backstage to link up with her man and the two posed for photos together. It's just the latest in a handful of adorable moments between the young couple, who rekindled their cute romance in May.

It's been a big couple of weeks for Chloë, who not only survived a social media feud with a Kardashian, but also spoke during the Democratic National Convention to urge millennials to vote. At the event, she was surprised by none other than Brooklyn, and the pair posted a sweet photo together on Instagram.

Jennifer Garner Doesn't Look Much Older Than the Teen Choice Demographic

Jennifer Garner lit up the Teen Choice Awards in LA on Sunday when she took the stage with her Miracles From Heaven costar Kylie Rogers to accept the choice drama movie award for their film, which also stars Queen Latifah. The ladies thanked the voters for their giant surfboard and posed for photos together backstage; Jennifer looked fresh and gorgeous in a black strapless jumpsuit and half-up hairstyle - anyone else getting 13 Going on 30 vibes?

We've seen a lot of Jen lately, both on the red carpet and on the streets of LA. Most recently, she looked carefree while running errands amid reports that she and estranged husband Ben Affleck aren't planning to divorce after all - a friend close to the actress revealed to People that "Ben still doesn't want the divorce and he might actually get his way." She also stepped out for the Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala earlier this month, where she was honored for her work with early education.

New Study Finds That Transgender Identity Is Not A Mental Disorder

Transgender Identity study

New findings suggest that it would be appropriate to remove the diagnosis of transgender from the current classification as a mental disorder in the WHO International Classification of Diseases (ICD), according to Pych Central.

The research led by the National Institute of Psychiatry interviewed 250 transgender people and found that it is not a mental disorder as once believed. Apparently, distress and impairment are the two essential characteristics of a mental disorder, and they found transgender people can experience some distress but not because they are transgender, but because of social rejection and violence.

“If it’s not a disease now, then it never was. This should be clear.”

The field study was conducted in Mexico City between April and August of 2014, with 250 participants who received mental and health care services. The researchers revealed that the Mexico study is the first in a series of studies that hope to be able to confirm the findings so transgender identity can be removed as a mental disorder.

“This reclassification will not only promote discussions for new health policies for the trans community to have better access to health services, but it will also help to reduce the stigma and rejection that they are victims of.”

One of the determining factors for a psychiatric disorder is “distress and dysfunction” but, they found other causes for this feeling as well–such social rejection, family relationship problems, and stigmatization in the community.

The study asked the participants to report what age they first became aware of having a transgender identity, as well as what type of distress they felt including social rejection and any violence they suffered. The researcher noted that the frequency of violence within the participant families was “particularly disturbing” after their parents discovered their transgender identity status.

The study found that 76 percent of the participants reported they experienced social rejection with 63 percent noted being a victim of violence as a result of their transgender status. And, more alarming was that most of the violence occurred within the participant’s family.

The researcher found that having transgender identity was not an indication of a mental disorder, but coping with transgender identity could cause a person to experience distress and dysfunction, which leads to mental illness symptoms.

“Our findings support the idea that distress and dysfunction may be the result of stigmatization and maltreatment, rather than integral aspects of transgender identity. This study highlights the need for policies and programs to reduce stigmatization and victimization of” people with transgender identities. The removal of transgender diagnoses from the classification of mental disorders can be a useful part of those efforts.”

The researchers hope that this study may reduce or eliminate the stigma attached from having a transgender identity. In time, transgender identity will be removed from the ICD and will eventually be accepted socially.

UCLA Williams Institute estimates there are about 1.4 million Americans who are transgender, Time reports. In the study, they found that 80 percent of the participants (in this study) were transgender women (those who were born male and identify as a female). The participants revealed that most of the social isolation they felt was at the hands of their immediate family members.

In a separate study, 57 percent of transgender youth who didn’t have supportive parents attempted suicide. They found that only four percent of transgender youth tried to kill themselves if they felt supported by their family.

“Stigma associated with both mental disorder and transgender identity has contributed to the precarious legal status, human rights violations and barriers to appropriate care among transgender people.”

The study seems to be going in the right direction to bring awareness to the dangers of discriminating against the transgender community. Do you think the WHO will remove transgender identity from the mental disorders?

Antibiotics Are So Last Century! War On Superbugs Like MRSA To Be Fought With Tetraspanin Proteins?

MRSA doesn't live well in presence of tetraspanins

Scientists have been warning doctors and patients for years now that the end of theAntibiotic Era was upon us. Bacteria has become resistant to even last-resort antibiotics in some areas of the country and around the globe. Something as simple as an infected scrape or a bedsore can kill. While Americans have been in panic-mode over measles, which reportedly kills less than one American a year, a deadly monster known as MRSA is living right under (and in) their noses.

MRSA is is a drug-resistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus. Around 90,000 Americans suffer from invasive MRSA infection and about 20,000 Americans die each year from it, because our antibiotics no longer work against these infections. Many, according to the University of Chicago Medicine MRSA Research Center, are children.

Though those statistics change yearly, and the CDC does its best to track MRSA incidents, the clear point is that handling MRSA infections effectively no longer means antibiotic ointments or medications. Scientists are thinking outside the box. One new method from researchers at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom aims at preventing skin wounds like bedsores and ulcers from becoming infected.

The new research was completed in a human model of 3D tissue engineered skin. According to Medical News Today, the study indicated that the new treatment was safe and effective in humans. It involved tetraspanin proteins, not actually killing bacteria, unlike antibiotic therapy.

According to a report in Journal of Cell Science, “Tetraspanins are a family of proteins with four transmembrane domains that play a role in many aspects of cell biology and physiology.” Tetraspanins are used by several pathogens to promote infection and some even regulate cancer progression. Tetraspanins associate specifically and directly with specific proteins.

A Health and Human Services public access article specified that tetraspanin transmembrane proteins are now understood to be “key players in malignancy, the immune system, during fertilization and infectious disease processes.” There are many ways that “tetraspanins affect cell signalling, adhesion, morphology, motility, fusion and virus infection,” and even in 2008, when the HHS article was published, it was believed that targeting tetraspanins could be therapeutically beneficial.

Prof. Sheila MacNeil, from the University of Sheffield’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering created the 3D tissue engineered skin and the model used in the new research. The researchers collaborated with AGE U.K., a charity on a mission to improve the lives of senior citizens, to demonstrate that “while infection is launched by bacteria tightly attaching to skin cells by hijacking ‘sticky patches’ – by using proteins called tetraspanins from human cells – the patches are made less sticky, allowing bacteria to be washed away,” Medical News Today reported.

“Unlike traditional drugs, tetraspanin based anti-adherence peptides target components of the host as opposed to the bacteria and thus have a decreased likelihood of the development of resistance. This, alongside their broad specificity and low toxicity, make tetraspanin-derived peptides an appealing candidate for anti-bacterial drug development.”

“This development is a huge breakthrough in the fight against antibiotic-resistance,” Dr. Pete Monk from the Department of Infection, Immunity and Cardiovascular Science, who led the study, said. “We hope that this new therapy can be used to help relieve the burden of skin infections on both patients and health services while also providing a new insight into how we might defeat the threat of antimicrobial drug resistance.”

Monk says that clinical trials for a gel or cream that would work well with wound dressing could be available in the next three to five years.

The new therapy doesn’t actually work by killing bacteria, so it can’t encourage the evolution of resistance like antibiotics have. It has been proven to work on antibiotic-resistant bacteria, like MRSA, which the researchers said in a press release “is currently one of the biggest threats to global healthcare and medicine.”

“Skin infections, such as bed-sores and ulcers, can be incredibly troubling for patients who may already be dealing with other debilitating conditions. They are also a significant problem for modern healthcare.”

With research funding from the Humane Research Trust, researchers are developing the new dressings that should promote more rapid healing of wounds. While the research paper published in PLOS One says that tetraspanin peptides “have no toxicity to the bacteria,” the report also noted they seem to have “no anti-adherence activity when added to the bacteria before adhesion to host cells.” The way this new treatment will be utilized will be to prevent infections in the wounds, not necessarily treat the infections after they are there.

One other big point that was not heavily highlighted by the media, but was pointed out by the researchers, is that the limitations of the study made it so that the researchers “cannot comment on the effects of the peptides on the immune system” and that anti-adherence therapies are a relatively new area of research.

In other antibiotic resistant bacteria developments, Inquisitr previously reported that scientists in Sweden learned that drinking old-world style mead, a fermented mix of honey and water, could build up a natural resistance to antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA.

How To Keep That Belly Flat: Follow These Tips From Chris Powell And Other Experts

Experts share how to combat fat

In the middle of summer it often hits us when donning that swimsuit or wearing that form-fitting tank, that our mid-section is perhaps not exactly as flat and fit as we would like. Health and fitness experts have the secret to ensure that you attain or maintain the desired flab-free belly.

Chris Powell of ABC’s hit show Extreme Weight Loss shares that “Whether you have ten pounds to lose or 100, the first thing you should do is create an environment for success.” Additionally, studies have proven that hiding any vices, those being the tempting calorie-infested treats you are inclined to snack on, is a proven way to cut unwanted calories.

Eat This Not That shares evidence of this and reported the extent to which calories can be cut, simply by reorganizing the pantry.

“Out of sight, out of mouth? Simply reorganizing your pantry’s “top hits” could translate into serious calorie savings, according to researchers at Google. A study, conducted at the search engine’s New York office dubbed “Project M&M” found that placing chocolate candies in opaque containers as opposed to glass ones, and giving healthier snacks more prominent shelf space, curbed M&M consumption by 3.1 million calories in just seven weeks. “

The publication also shares that it’s possible to lose fat while we sleep by cranking up the air conditioning a notch or two. Cold air while sleeping reportedly “enhances the effectiveness of our stores of brown fat, which helps to burn through fat stored in the belly.” A study which had individuals sleep at a cool 66 degrees over four weeks, saw participants double their volume of brown fat (which means belly fat loss).

A tip has already been offered about keeping junk food out of sight. Another bit of advice involves keeping healthy produce in plain sight. The dietitian for the Philadelphia Phillies and Flyers, Katie Cavuto, shares that you are more likely to nab fruits and veggies over junk food if they are readily available to snack on. She suggests preparing veggies such as cucumbers, peppers, snap peas and carrots and setting them in the front of the fridge so that they are a go-to over less healthful items. Additionally, bananas, apples, pears and oranges are great sweet snacks to leave out on the counter.

One item that definitely needs to vacate all homes is soda. Gina Consalvo, registered dietitian, shares that both diet and regular soda have zero benefit to the consumer and may even negatively impact health.

“Not only are they loaded with empty calories, harmful preservatives, sugar or artificial sweeteners, they also have dangerous artificial coloring derived from coal tar. The coloring has been linked to allergic reactions, fatigue, asthma, skin rashes, hyperactivity, headaches and even cancer.”

Tossing the empty carbs is also a proven way to lessen the amount of sugars we intake and therefore reduce belly fat. The publication shares that although delicious and what many of us grew up on, white bread and bagels have no health benefits.

“Made with enriched flour instead of healthy whole grains, they are void of the belly-filling fiber that boosts satiety and keeps blood sugar stable. What’s worse, refined white-flour foods like these are linked to heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Plus, they lead to weight gain and make it more difficult to lose weight, too.”

Chris Powell gives more tips about “carb cycling” via Men’s Fitness

Good items to add to your fridge are the ingredients for healthy and delicious smoothies. Many smoothies are perfect for breakfast and snack time, while they also are charged with belly-flattening nutrients. Each drink is filled with protein, and healthy fats and fiber. A quick recipe shared by the publication includes “Mixing 1 scoop of vegetarian protein powder ⅔ cup frozen mango chunks, ½ tbsp almond butter, and ½ cup unsweetened almond, coconut or hemp milk. You’ll get 29 grams of protein for just 224 calories!”

CDC Speaks On Zika Virus And Offers Tips On Prevention

Zika Virus In United States

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the first four documented cases of locally transmitted Zika virus occurred within the continental United States.

Reportedly, none of Zika virus victims had traveled to Latin America or the Caribbean, areas that are considered to be Zika-prevalent. Officials for the CDC and representatives for Florida health have concluded that victims in Florida have been infected by local mosquitoes in Miami.

Reports from The Daily Caller quoted Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, the director of the CDC. In reference to visiting Florida, Dr. Frieden told reporters, “Zika is here now, we don’t currently see a situation where we would advise people not to travel there or advise pregnant women not to travel there.”

Florida health officials have stated that the four patients who have been infected on U.S. soil appear to have contracted the disease early in July. All four of the victims, one woman and three men, apparently acquired it in a small neighborhood in Miami. As of now, health officials are not advising people to avoid that particular neighborhood.

Mosquito control efforts were intensified and no additional cases have been reported in the area. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has refused to accept blood donations from the Miami area until those donations are screened for the virus.

Health officials have declined to confirm whether not the woman who contracted the virus is currently pregnant. According to medical officials and the CDC, the Zika virus in pregnant women can be linked to fetal deaths and devastating birth defects.

In the continental United States, there are currently 1,661 cases of the virus and another 4,729 cases have been reported in American territories. Many of these cases are believed to be the result of sexual transmission. A vast majority of the cases occurred in individuals who traveled to areas of the world where the Zika virus is prevalent, like Brazil.

In America, there have been 12 confirmed cases of babies born with Zika-related microcephaly. Microcephaly is a neurological condition, considered to be very rare, in which an infant’s head to is significantly smaller than the heads of other children of the same age and sex. Researchers have long warned that mosquitoes carrying the virus would eventually spread to America. Research has put a special emphasis on Florida in the Gulf Coast states.

A recent study published by the National Center for Atmospheric Research confirms that mosquitoes carrying the virus could spread as far as New York City this summer, if the weather continues to be warmer than average.

The mosquito that carries them Zika virus is known as the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This type of mosquito typically lives in tropical climates. Researchers believe that the virus will not spread as prolifically in the United States as it has in the Caribbean and Latin America, because most Americans live and work within air-conditioned environments. The aforementioned study also found that only small numbers of the mosquitoes could survive in most of North America through the spring and fall, when temperatures begin to cool down.

Budgetary requirements have already been addressed as researchers prepare to study American Olympic athletes who contract the virus while competing in the Rio Olympics in Brazil.

There’s currently no vaccine to protect people against the Zika virus. According to the CDC, the best way to prevent the virus is by avoiding mosquito bites altogether. Mosquitoes that spread the virus bite mostly during the daytime. People should also know that the Zika virus can be spread sexually. It is very important that men be aware of the sexual spread of the Zika virus, in specific when dealing with women who are pregnant or could become pregnant.

To protect yourself and your family from the Zika virus, take measures to prevent mosquito bites with the use of mosquito repellents and control mosquitoes that may get inside your house for the prevalence on or near the property with natural or chemical pesticides. All the common measures for mosquito control will work to prevent the Zika virus, but, as is true of all things, no preventative measures will work if they go unused. Americans are encouraged to take action.

Symptoms for the Zika virus can include fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis, muscle pain and headache. People who contract the virus very rarely feel ill enough to visit the hospital, but it is important that those who believe they could be infected with the virus visit their healthcare providers as soon as possible.

‘It’s Like Sticking A Knife In Your Foot’: Babies Exposed To Unnecessary Pain For The Sake Of Medical Studies, Not Treated By Doctors

infant pain study

Some medical professionals are raising concerns about the practice of “pain studies” in infants. It was revealed that babies are routinely inflicted with pain and then denied pain relievers during clinical trials in a bid to study new pain treatments. However, some are concerned that the clinical trials are unethical as the babies are being exposed to unnecessary pain which can cause long-term developmental problems.

Reuters notes that a report from the Acta Paediatrica medical journal points to the potential emotional and developmental problems that can present in a baby due that has gone through clinical pain studies. The report reveals that nearly two-thirds of all pain studies performed on infants was done with placebos. The infant would be inflicted with pain or undergo a painful procedure but would not receive pain treatments. Instead, the baby would be given a placebo and their pain response would be detailed.

The study indicates that while some trials are done on procedures that currently have no pain treatment options such as nose suctioning, others are done on procedures that known pain relievers exists such as needle sticks. When pain treatment options are available, even if it is just breastfeeding or skin-to-skin contact, the researches say it is unethical not to provide it to the hurting child. Therefore, the paper encourages parents to refuse to allow their child to participate in studies of this nature and is asking medical journals to refuse to publish studies of this nature.

“We are urging parents and ethics review boards to refuse studies that do not provide acceptable analgesia to all babies enrolled in studies, if such pain relief exists. In addition we are calling on medical journals to refuse to publish studies that deny pain relief to control infants undergoing painful procedures.”

The researchers say that this is unacceptable as it has been determined that babies feel pain more strongly than adults and that exposure to unnecessary pain can cause developmental delays. The delays are seen most heavily in premature infants who are exposed to numerous painful procedures, but the researchers say it is relevant to the ethics of pain studies in any infant group. As an example, the researchers point out that though many of the studies involve heel pricks or needle pricks in infants, this would be the equivalent of “sticking a knife in your foot” and not being offered any pain killers. Baby feet are tiny and sensitive, so even the smallest needle will be large in comparison to the foot size.

“The stress of a single painful event can cause blood-saturation levels to drop, requiring a baby to be on oxygen. Even heel sticks are significant for patients whose heels are the size of an adult fingertip. It’s like sticking a knife in your foot.”

With known side effects to painful procedures, the researchers say that doctors are obligated to “first do no harm.” Therefore, the researchers are asking that clinical pain studies be performed in a manner that is ethical to the tiny patient.

According to the Calgary Herald, the paper goes on to remind researchers that it was not long ago that doctors and the medical community believed that infants could not feel pain. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1980s that a bombshell study proved without doubt that newborns could feel and experience pain just like their adult counterparts, if not more so. The ethical concerns presented by the paper has already made waves in the infant pain study community with numerous universities promising to no longer use placebos.

Wayne State University was one university that made the promise following controversy of a study they presented in 2015. The university says that following the ethical concerns, the university will no longer offer placebos in pain studies performed on infants.

What do you think of the idea of doctors and researchers knowingly inflicting pain on an infant and then denying them pain relief for the sake of a clinical study?

The Philippines Will Host Miss Universe For the First Time in 22 Years

It feels like the world is only just getting over Steve Harvey's big mistake at the Miss Universe Pageant last year, where he announced Miss Colombia the winner instead of Miss Philippines. So news that the next Miss Universe will be crowned in the Philippines has been much welcomed around the globe.

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) announced today that the country will stage the event in January 2017.
"I would like to inform everybody that the Miss Universe beauty pageant will be on January 30, 2017 here in the Philippines," said Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo. "We have a President that comes from Mindanao and our Miss Universe is from Mindanao so I think it is the best time for us to do Miss Universe in the Philippines."

The private sector will fund the $11 million needed for the 65th edition of the most prestigious beauty pageant and it's thought the ancillary Miss Universe events will be held in the country's top tourist destinations Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Boracay, Cebu, Palawan and Vigan. As a result the tourism industry is expected to "gain tremendously" from it.

"The government is not going to spend any single centavo. It will be the private sector who will shoulder all the expenses," she added.

The Philippines's Pia Wurtzbach was crowned in Las Vegas and previous to that, winners Miss Colombia, Miss Venezuela and Miss USA were either awarded in Russia or the United States.
After Steve revealed he would be returning to host the next show, we're sure the entire planet will be tuning in to see what happens next time.

Ground Breaking Cure Means Hepatitis C Will Be Eliminated In Australia Within The Next ‘10 To 15 Years’; #NOhep Trending On ‘World Hepatitis Day’

Hepatitis C Eliminated

Thursday is World Hepatitis Day and currently there are 230,000 people living with hepatitis C in Australia, making it a public health issue, according to the ABC.

Although the number of current sufferers is alarming, recent statistics released by Hepatitis Australia show that there is hope. 95 per cent of people treated for hepatitis C with a new drug have had a successful outcome and Hepatitis Australia chief executive, Helen Tyrell, said that the virus may be eliminated within the next decade thanks to the revolutionary drug.

“We’re on track to eliminate hepatitis C as a public health threat in Australia within 10 to 15 years,” she said.

Helen Tyrell said that this is the first time that complete elimination of the hepatitis C virus is on the horizon and that a record number of people have been successfully treated in the past few months.

“We have new estimates from the Kirby Institute, which indicate in just four months over 22,000 people living with hepatitis C have commenced treatment.”

“That is 10 per cent of all people living with hep C in Australia,” she said.

“It is an absolutely massive increase on the number previous treated each year, which was around 2,000 to 3,000.”

Ongoing funding is crucial to make hepatitis C a thing of the past in Australia, and then globally, and with World Hepatitis Day happening tomorrow campaigners are hoping to ramp up donations and share the ‘#NOhep future’ message.

The new treatment for hepatitis C is fast, effective, and not toxic for the body. With a 95 per cent success rate and just three months of treatment Helen Tyrell said the virus should be abolished faster, but only with backing from the government, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“The treatment itself is very easy. It is just tablets. It is not toxic and it will generally produce a cure in 12 weeks for 95 per cent of people.”

“Ongoing investment and effective partnerships between Government, researchers, clinicians and also people living with the virus are going to be absolutely vital.”

Helen Tyrell said so many people across are Australia are seeking treatment because of the ease and availability of the cure.

“We don’t have any restrictions on who can access it, people can go to their GP and they can prescribe them the treatment,” she said.

The cost of the treatment is the only thing standing in the way of a hepatitis C free Australia and the numbers show people in more affluent areas are getting more treatment. In Victoria, 13 per cent of the state’s 55,760 people with hepatitis C have begun treatment, in South Australia and Western Australia only 5 per cent of the hepatitis C population have bought the drugs.

Data from the Kirby Institute shows Nearly 22,500 patients have commenced treatment since the drugs were listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in March, representing about 10 per cent of all people who are estimated to be living with hepatitis C. But there are still roadblocks, one of the issues stopping people from reaching for the pills is the stigma around the virus. The NOhep tag and World Hepatitis Day are trying to breakdown the stigma and encourage people to get help.

Sara (last name withheld) had hepatitis C but is now cured. She contracted the virus after sharing drug equipment, but had no symptoms. She knows all to well the feeling of wanting to hide after diagnosis.

“There’s stigma and discrimination throughout society when it comes to this virus and you feel embarrassed if you end up becoming infected with it,” Sara said.

“So you keep it to yourself until you feel you have to explain it to people. Because it’s chronic, you’re not scared initially, but you want to do something about it because it can affect your quality of life.”

After taking a single pill, morning and night, for three months, she was cured and hopes that others will go for the treatment as well.

World Hepatitis Day is one of only a few ‘World Health Days’ that is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), giving it global status. In May 2016, WHO adopted the first ever Global Strategy for viral hepatitis which commits all countries to working towards the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

The message of a NOhep future will be launched on World Hepatitis Day and is a global movement to eliminate viral hepatitis; it provides a platform for people to come together and take action to ensure global commitments are met and viral hepatitis is eliminated by 2030.

Why Is Brazil Handing Out So Many Condoms To Olympic Athletes In Rio?

2016 rio olympics see record number of condom distribution

Each athlete participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics will be given a supply of 42 condoms for the duration of the games.

While distribution of condoms in the village by the International Olympic Committee is not exactly new, the number of contraceptives in 2016 Rio Olympics is three times the total in previous events, according to Yahoo Sports.

This August, there are around 11,000 athletes from around the world who will be in Brazil for the summer games. Of course, that doesn’t count the around 6,000 coaches who will also be hanging around in the village.

The standing record for the number of condoms distributed in the Olympic village was in 2012 in London when about 150,000 contraceptives were handed out.

The first record of condom distribution was in Seoul in 1988, as cited by different publications. At that time, around 8,500 contraceptives were distributed. In 2000, Sydney’s initial 70,000 condoms were totally spent and organizers had to deliver 20,000 pieces more. By 2004, the number jumped to 130,000 courtesy of Durex.

Apparently, this would be the first time that 100,000 condoms will be made available to female athletes, along with “175,000 packets of lubricants.”

While described as Spartan in conditions, the Olympic village will put most houses in Rio to shame. Granted that most of the materials were recycled—from the beds to the wardrobe—each room nevertheless is equipped with air-conditioning unit.

The village, however, has swimming pools, tennis courts and bike lanes (a luxury in a very dense city like Rio) which CNN described as “downright five-star.” Aside from condoms, athletes of the 2016 Rio Olympics also have access to 24-hour cafeteria and a beauty salon if they wish to pamper themselves.

Paul Ramler, RSG events founder, told CNN, “The athletes are going to have everything they could possibly wish for during the Games. I’ve never seen anything like this during all my years at the Games.”

RSG events supplies furniture to the Olympic village since scoring the contract in 2000.

Olympic gold medal winner Zac Purchase told The Guardian that the amount of condoms being distributed in the 2016 Rio Olympics borders on the ridiculous.

“It is an absolutely huge allocation of condoms,” the retired athlete said. “But it is all so far from the truth of what it’s like to be in there. It’s not some sexualized cauldron of activity. We’re talking about athletes who are focused on producing the best performance of their lives.”

So, what’s the explanation for the spike in number of condoms this year?

While nobody is coming out to admit that the distribution of condoms at the 2016 Rio Olympics could be related to fears regarding the Zika virus, some news reports did not rule out this possibility. While the virus is not life-threatening to adults, pregnant women—especially during the early stages—are particularly vulnerable.

Babies born from mothers who contracted the Zika virus exhibit very small heads and slow development. In fact, the Australian contingent has been bringing their own condoms (in addition to the contraceptives being passed around in the 2016 Rio Olympics) just to be sure.

The fears are very real, of course. According to the advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Zika virus can be transmitted by a contaminated person to another through sex. And sex can be vaginal, anal, oral and even sharing of sex toys.

“Only people with sex partners who live in or traveled to an area with Zika are at risk for getting Zika through sex,” the advisory said. “Zika can be passed through sex, even if the person does not have symptoms at the time.”

The All That Cast Reunited to Talk the '90s, Britney Spears, and Giant Corn at Comic-Con

Twenty-two years after '90s Nickelodeon show All That dominated TV screens nationwide, four of the original cast members reunited at San Diego Comic-Con for a nostalgic panel devoted to memories about the show. Josh Server, Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli, and Lori Beth Denberg answered questions on stage (alongside a fan-favorite All That prop: the giant ear of corn), recalling their favorite set stories and discussing the impact that '90s Nickelodeon had on fans' lives.

So, was life on the Nick show really "all that"? Here's what we learned from the panel!

How they remember the audition process for All That:

Lori Beth Denberg recalled auditioning for All That when it was still referred to as "Untitled Sketch Comedy Show" and credits her high school drama courses for helping her earn the opportunity. Josh Server and Kel Mitchell, who both hail from Chicago, said they already knew one another from other auditions in their hometown, so they were old friends by the time they were cast on the show.

Danny Tamberelli (who didn't join the cast until season four) and Kenan Thompson were already acting pros before hitting the All That set, both starring in different installments of The Mighty Ducks, which the rest of the cast teased Tamberelli about during the panel.

All That's special hazing rituals:

Because Tamberelli joined the cast later, he claimed that his fellow Nick actors "hazed" him by intentionally not laughing at his jokes. This worked out for the best, however, because it forced him to look at his own comedy with a critical eye, ultimately improving his timing and elevating his sense of humor!

The rest of the cast chuckled when remembering the excitement of Tamberelli's addition to the cast, with Server noting that the set boiled down to "teenage angst with a TV show."

The cast's favorite celebrity guests:

With so many celebrity guest-stars and musical performers to pick from, the cast had a hard time choosing their favorites. Server described what a privilege it was to work with comedy legend Chris Farley before his passing and Mitchell waxed poetic about the opportunity to rap with Busta Rhymes.

Denberg and Tamberelli had more humorous memories of their celebrity favorites, with Denberg noting how hilarious it was to bring an adult-favorite celebrity like Coolio into a kid-friendly environment like Universal Studios. Tamberelli might have the rest of his castmates beat, though, describing how he had to reshoot one sketch after ruining the scene by flagrantly staring at Britney Spears's butt. Whoops!

Scandalous on-set romances between cast members:

"We could not keep Kenan and Josh apart," joked Denberg when the panel was asked about crushes between cast members. The entire cast was quick to agree that there wasn't much drama or romance happening between the kids on set, because their relationship was more familial than romantic. "It was more 'brother and sister,'" described Server of the vibe on All That's set.

What it's like to reunite 22 years later:

"We get together and it's like no time has passed," Server noted affectionately of the cast, who were quick to hug, tease, and compliment one another during the panel. Though more than two decades have gone by, the group's endless inside jokes and teary laughter when recalling their past hijinks on set certainly proved his point.

Best memories when they think about '90s Nickelodeon:

Two of the All That veterans shared particularly special stories about their favorite snapshots of their time on set. Denberg recalled going to ride roller coasters at Universal Studios during her lunch break, because the Nickelodeon set was right inside the Orlando theme park. Twenty-two years later, she still recognizes how cool and unique the experience was.

Mitchell remembered how many kids and teens would approach him to share how All That was a reprieve from their tough home lives. Even when their parents were fighting or they were being bullied in school, he described, they had half an hour of TV that made them laugh - and being a part of that, to him, was an incredible privilege.

It’s Ok To Eat Butter Again! Why Celebrity Trainer Harley Pasternak Says This Formerly Forbidden Fat Is Now Ok

It's Ok To Eat Butter Again! Why This Formerly Forbidden Fat Is Now Ok To Use Every Day|Photo by Joern Haufe/Getty Images

After years of pushing away from butter, it appears that butter is ok to eat again. A recent Tufts University study has essentially neutralized butter, moving it from the forbidden fat category to safe to eat in moderation. What was this study and what does celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak say about consuming butter?

What started out this whole butter debate was a recent Tufts University study claiming that butter is not as unhealthy as it was previously thought to be. In fact, the research findings indicate that consuming butter was not associated with heart disease, as was previously published. In addition, this latest study found that those who consumed butter had a bit of protection from developing diabetes 2 and a very small association with risk of premature death.

So does this mean that eating butter is ok? Senior author of the study, and dean of the Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian said that consuming butter is essentially neutral.

“Overall, our results suggest that butter should neither be demonized nor considered ‘back’ as a route to good health.”

Recently in People, Harley Pasternak, trainer for such fit celebrities as Katy Perry, Kate Upton, Megan Fox, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Hudson wrote about butter and gave the lowdown on fats in general. Before indulging in a tub of real butter, Harley has some sage advice on healthfully consuming butter.

Experts in nutrition like Pasternak can look at a study and simplify the results for the average consumer. In this recent butter study, Pasternak cautions people to be careful at the interpretation of the study results such as butter causing the decrease in new cases of type 2 diabetes.

“As with all studies, we need to be careful with the interpretation and application of the results. The findings observed do not prove cause-and-effect. For example, we cannot definitively say that one serving of butter a day caused the decrease in new cases of type 2 diabetes. Many other factors could have been at play.”

In addition, Pasternak pointed out that there needs to be additional controlled trials including those with similar statistics who consume butter and those who do not. He pointed out that this study is very limited in concrete information.

“This review did not account for other factors known to affect cardiovascular health, such as overweightness and physical inactivity. In addition, without randomized controlled trials to compare the health outcomes of people who do and don’t consume butter, or people who consume healthier alternatives to butter, these researchers were limited in their conclusions.”

So, what is Harley Pasternak’s final verdict on butter?

“So can you eat butter? Sometimes.”

As a nutrition expert, Pasternak further clarified what this study means when we are consciously choosing what to eat to stay healthy.

“Sure, a pat of butter here and there won’t do real damage, but where possible, we should be using the unsaturated fats that actually promote health, rather than ones that aren’t shown to be beneficial.”

So basically, butter is not on par with the fats in salmon nor olive oil, yet, butter no longer deserves the unhealthy rap it has received for years. Most of all, Pasternak says that butter is much healthier than margarine, the butter substitute. Margarine consists mostly of the unhealthy trans fats that are very dangerous to heart health. Worst of all, for many years, margarine was considered the superior alternative to butter. Now, butter is considered neutral and margarine is definitely the unhealthy choice.

There is no doubt that there will be further, hopefully more thorough and conclusive studies on the effects of butter so that consumers know how much they can safely indulge in and still stay healthy.

Is this new study going to change your attitude about butter? Have you replaced margarine with butter in your refrigerator?

Why It's OK to Care About Celebrity News and "Real Issues" at the Same Time

We've all been there - you scroll through Facebook, you stumble upon an article, and before you can even click in to read and judge it for yourself, you spot it: the inevitable "Who cares?" sitting atop the list of comments like a harbinger of hostility. It's typically followed by an effusive reply: "You, since you took time to comment!," which feels like vindication but really just opens a whole new can of worms. This trifecta of passive aggression is finally rounded out with some variation of "This is news?," "Focus on the real issues!," or "There are more important things going on in the world right now."

This bothers me for a few reasons, none of which involve the fact that it's literally my job to care about and cover those so-called "unimportant" things. It is, of course, entirely possible to care about more than one thing at the same time. Our brains can process, store, and maintain an incredible amount of information; that's why you can walk and chew gum at the same time, or worry about world hunger while also wondering what you're going to eat for lunch that day. But this sentiment also implies that only hard, serious news is "important," and ignores the reality: that it's just really, really exhausting to be focused on the "real issues" all the time.

It implies that only hard, serious news is "important" and ignores the reality: that it's just really, really exhausting to be focused on the "real issues" all the time.

The past two years have been pretty rough, both mentally and emotionally, where the news is concerned: I personally am simultaneously stressed out about everyday life things like succeeding at work, paying bills on time, and maintaining personal relationships while also dealing with the added anxiety of mass shootings, police brutality, rape culture, natural disasters, and Donald Trump becoming president. On top of dealing with street harassment and the possibility of being hit by a Muni bus while walking in the city, I also have to consider the chances of my family members being racially profiled by police and my friends traveling abroad being caught in a terrorist attack. There are "real issues" that plague us every day in our families, our friend groups, our romantic relationships, and our neighborhoods. I'm well aware of the "real issues." I'm fully caught up on the "actual news." And like many other people, I'm f*cking drained.

That is precisely why, when a famous couple gets engaged or divorced, a superhot actor goes shirtless on the beach, or Beyoncé shares a cute photo of Blue Ivy on Instagram, we should let ourselves care about it. We should give ourselves (and each other) the freedom and space to get excited and express enthusiasm about celebrity news, because it offers a respite from all the completely depressing things going on - at least until another completely depressing thing happens.

As Cheryl Strayed once wrote: "There are so many things to be tortured about, sweet pea. So many torturous things in this life." Life isn't easy, and we all need something to help us through it. For some people, it's yoga and meditation; for others it's reading about all the women Leonardo DiCaprio has dated, poring over photos of Prince George, or watching the drama unfold between Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift. The best part is that there's room for all of it; you can support the Black Lives Matter movement while also hoping that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner get back together, and you can follow the presidential election with the same fervor as you follow Chrissy Teigen's Instagram account.

The next time somebody tries to make you feel bad for essentially taking a break from the "more important things going on in the world," calmly remind them that as a living, breathing, human person, you are fully capable of grasping both world news and pop culture headlines. When it comes to what you turn to for self-care (especially in trying times), you just need to do you. At the end of the day: who cares?
