The Side Of Extreme Weight Loss That No One Wants To Talk About– Loose And Sagging Skin

Dangers of extreme weight loss

Imagine working hard to hit your goal weight. You exercise every day and count every calorie that touches your lips. You finally hit your goal weight and feel embarrassed to show off your progress to your friends and loved ones. There is a side to weight loss that rarely anyone is brave enough to share. Finally, someone was courageous enough to tell their story.

Feministe shared a compelling story of a woman that lost almost half her body weight from 332 pounds to 180. She was proud of herself for having the dedication to her health, but there was one problem she faced after her massive weight loss–her skin didn’t “bounce” back.

“After all that work, it can be a disappointing blow to discover that bodies that have lost 50-plus pounds simply don’t look like bodies that have maintained a steady weight since reaching adulthood. (While cosmetic surgeries like those detailed here can treat loose skin, stretch marks, and sagginess, they’re also expensive, invasive, and mostly absent from the fairy-tale weight loss success stories we see depicted so often.)…It’s a fantasy, that when we lose weight, everything wrong in our lives is going to be right — that means our relationships are going to be right, we’re going to feel completely differently about ourselves. People are shocked to find out that this thing that they’ve been longing for and waiting for and working for is not what they thought it was.”

Julia Kozerski lost weight the old fashioned way; she ate a balanced diet and made a point to be active each and every day. In the end, she lost an incredible 160 pounds, and couldn’t be happier about her progress. The amount of extra skin left behind after the weight loss was shocking. She lost so much weight; you’d think she would be able to enjoy her new figure. In the end, she felt like a “fat girl” with so much extra skin. It is a constant reminder that she was once over 300 lbs.

Kozerski had dreams of the type of clothes and things she could do when she lost weight. She wanted to be finally able to buy “cute” clothes. She wanted to look beautiful in her swimming suit for the first time in many, many years. Julia couldn’t do any of these things; she is left feeling just as overweight as she was at 300 plus pounds with pounds of loose skin hanging on her body.

Society lies to women and tries to tell them if they work hard and lose weight, they will look like they did 20 or 30 years before. They don’t want you to know that you may work hard and lose weight, and still have loose skin or some other complication stemmed from decades of being obese.

Julia posted a picture for the whole world to see what she looks after her astonishing 160-pound loss. She explains that losing weight “damaged” her body in a way she will never be able to get back. The extra skin, in some ways, is worse for her to have than the extra pounds. Julia wants all people to know that if you have 80 to 100 pounds to lose, your skin may not “pop” back after you lose weight, and to consider plastic surgery if your start to notice sagging skin.

Julia’s pictures caused quite a stir on social media, as women were horrified that hard work and a dedicated exercise plan may not lead to the perfect body.
