Weight Loss Tips To Get Ready For Summer Include Long Term Tips For Success

Weight Loss Tips To Get Ready For Summer Include Long Term Tips For Success

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to handle any weight loss issues and get ready for bikini season. Although many may not be interested in wearing a bikini, losing the extra weight that may have accumulated during the winter just makes a person feel better. Although weight loss is important, and it can improve health, it’s really more important to focus on lifestyle changes that lead to long term success. The latest weight loss tips can help dieters get ready for summer and keep the weight off for good.

The Today Show reported that there were three weight loss tips that would lead to long term success and help keep the weight off for good. While one weight loss tip may be the right way to lose the weight and keep it off, it may not help someone else. The key to losing weight and keeping it off for good is for dieters to do things they will stick with.

One of the best ways to get ready to lose weight is to do an overhaul of the refrigerator and freezer and make more room for something new. Once this is done, it’s important to start by pre planning meals and reading the food labels. It may seem counterintuitive to think about food and plan ahead, but it can actually help dieters avoid being hungry. Skipping meals can lead to weight gain because of binge eating. If there are plenty of healthy foods available, it’s easier to avoid eating things that pack on the pounds.

As previously reported in Inquisitr, food is a big part of being successful in any long term weight loss strategy. It’s not necessary to give up favorite foods like chocolate and red wine as the right choices among these foods can actually help with losing weight as well as keeping the weight off.

Foods like red wine, chocolate and the right cheeses can actually help with weight loss because it means improving the microbes in the gut. Foods that help in the reproduction of the right microbes can help to improve weight loss results.

Eating the right snacks can also help with weight loss, as well as walking. Although 80 percent of weight loss is the result of eating the right way, physical activity can make a difference in how much weight is lost and whether it’s kept off for good. Snacking isn’t necessary in order to lose weight. What is key is to never get to the point of feeling so ravenous that dieters overeat.

US News & World Report Health reported that it was important for dieters to understand why they wanted to lose weight. It can’t just be about a number on the scale. To succeed with weight loss efforts, it’s necessary to have a deeper, more meaningful reason, like feeling better or having more energy.

Creating realistic goals helps dieters avoid failure and sabotaging weight loss efforts. Since it can be daunting to see the big picture or focus on creating lofty goals, it’s better to build challenging but doable goals. It’s also important to revise those goals and choose small onez that take dieters out of their comfort zone while making goals set possible to accomplish.

Getting plenty of sleep and leaving fruit on the counter for a snack are simple ways to reach weight loss goals because adequate sleep can help dieters avoid being too hungry because they avoid activating the hunger hormone. Fruit is a good low calorie snack that can satisfy in between meals. A study at Cornell University showed that dieters who kept healthy snacks in view actually weighed about 13 pounds less than those who did not.

Chocaholics Rejoice: Eating Chocolate Every Day Can Reduce Dangers Of Heart Disease And Diabetes

Eating chocolate for health

It’s always great to hear that one of your favorite snacks is actually good for you and the evidence is definitely stacking up for the benefits of eating chocolate.

There’s an old expression, “A little of what you fancy does you good.” While the saying is credited to a vaudeville song – reportedly made famous by the risqué Victorian singer Marie Lloyd and speaking of the benefits of sex – when referring to chocolate, those words are increasingly becoming fact.

Of course, everything is good in moderation and this includes our favorite treat, but a study has shown that by eating a bar of chocolate every day we could actually reduce both heart disease and the risk of diabetes. In fact the researchers who have been performing the study say healthcare professionals should recommend the habit of eating chocolate to their patients to keep them healthy.

Speaking of diabetes, previous studies in mice found that cocoa supplements actually reduced insulin resistance – incidences where cells in the body are unable to effectively use insulin, leading to high blood sugar. However, at that stage, while the results sounded good, reportedly researchers from the Luxembourg Institute of Health said the evidence of the effects of chocolate on insulin resistance was “lacking.”

In related news on the Inquisitr:

However, researchers went on to investigate the chocolate consumption habits of 1,153 people, using data from the 2006 survey “Observation of Cardiovascular Risk” in Luxembourg. The researchers also took into account whether participants in the study drank tea or coffee. Reportedly both drinks can often be high in polyphenol, a nutrient which is believed could give chocolate its beneficial effects on health.

The findings were published in the British Journal of Nutrition and, after taking into account other dietary and lifestyle habits, showed that people eating 100g of chocolate every day had reduced their insulin resistance and had improved liver enzymes.

It certainly sounds like a win-win situation, as Saverio Stranges, one of the researchers involved in the study, said, “Given the growing body of evidence, including our own study, cocoa-based products may represent an additional dietary recommendation to improve cardio-metabolic health.”

Reportedly reducing insulin resistance lowers the risk of high blood sugar, which then also reduces the higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

“Potential applications of this knowledge include recommendations by healthcare professionals to encourage individuals to consume a wide range of phytochemical-rich foods, which can include dark chocolate in moderate amounts,” Stranges said.

According to a report by the International Business Times, while this all sounds well and good, Stranges does go on to emphasize the importance of differentiating between which chocolate products actually do the trick in protecting our health.

“However, it is important to differentiate between the natural product cocoa and the processed product chocolate, which is an energy-dense food. Therefore, physical activity, diet and other lifestyle factors must be carefully balanced to avoid detrimental weight gain over time.”

According to the research team there is much more work to be done in the field to understand the role chocolate can play in reducing both diabetes and cardiovascular disease, with Stranges adding, “Observational results need to be supported by robust trial evidence.”

In the meantime we can all run our own experiments, enjoying the best chocolate there is to be found on the market.

Hygiene Hypothesis: How We Are Destroying Our Immune Systems, Causing Autoimmune Diseases By Decimating Evolved Gut Microbiomes

What is causing autoimmune disease rates to sky rocket and can Hygiene hypothesis explain it?

Hygiene hypothesis is a highly supported idea that claims that early exposure to pathogens is crucial to the development of the human immune system, and that our modern, over-sterilized, over-medicated lifestyles are directly contributing to the abundance of autoimmune diseases and allergies. In the last few decades, our healthcare system has seen diseases like type 1 diabetes, food allergies, and asthma overcome our youth in countries where modern economies with thriving medical communities are the envy of developing countries, but these developing countries are barely touched by such bodily self-attacks. Hygiene hypothesis is one of the strongest-supported theories for how we got here.

Erika von Mutius studied asthma in the 1980s in Munich. Most researchers thought that asthma was the result of air pollution, but after years of research into that theory, there was little evidence that pollution was causing Munich’s increasing rates of asthma, Smithsonian Magazine reported. In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell and for the first time, researchers had an amazing opportunity to study groups of genetically similar children, divided by the Iron Curtain, which created distinctly different childhoods. The results showed a significant difference in prevalence of asthma, which only made sense when von Mutius found a paper by a British physician who, after examining the medical records of 17,000 British children, suspected that exposure to a multitude of germs from siblings during infancy might be linked with lower rates of hay fever and eczema.

“The immune system is programmed within the first two years of life,” Mikael Knip, a Finnish physician explained to a Smithsonian Magazine reporter. Finland has one of the highest rates of Type 1 diabetes. “With less early infection, the immune system has too little to do, so it starts looking for other targets.”

“Exposure to bacteria may play a pivotal role in the immune system, and that we might be able to understand what that role is by studying the human microbiome,” Aleksandar Kostic, a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Ramnik Xavier at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, explained. Kostic’s work is a collaborative effort that involves researchers at Aalto University, Broad Institute, University of Helsinki, the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research, and many other health organizations all around the world. They are all working together on a project called the DIABIMMUNE Study Group.

These researchers are examined the gut microbiomes of infants from three different countries in order to better learn how our gut microbiomes might affect the prevalence of immune disorders. What they’ve learned is that interactions between bacterial species might account for the enormous spike in these autoimmune diseases and that our seeming obsession with sanitary environments and killing germs might be directly causing the soaring rates of health conditions like type 1 diabetes, asthma, atopy and food allergies.

The DIABIMMUNE Study Group collected monthly stool samples from infants in Finland, Estonia and Russian Karelia for its latest research. After evaluating the gut microbiomes of the babies along with information about breastfeeding, diet, allergies, infections, and family history, they discovered a significant difference in the babies’ guts depending on where they were raised.

“According to the hygiene hypothesis, the increasing incidence of autoimmune diseases in western countries may be explained by changes in early microbial exposure, leading to altered immune maturation. We followed gut microbiome development from birth until age three in 222 infants in Northern Europe, where early-onset autoimmune diseases are common in Finland and Estonia but are less prevalent in Russia.”

The gut microbiomes of the Finnish and Estonian infants were rampant in Bacteroides species. The Russian Karelian babies had significantly more prevalent Bifidobacterium in their guts while they were infants and also a larger variety of microbiomes over the next three years.

“We can only speculate why this difference in bacterial populations exists; what we could show was what implications that difference in populations might have,” Tommi Vatanen, a co-first author of the research published in Cell, said.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure has the ability to trigger the immune system, but all LPS doesn’t work in the same way, according to Medical News Today. LPS signaling in the Russian Karelian’s babies’ microbiome was led by E. coli, performing its typical role triggering the immune response. In the Finnish and Estonian babies’ microbiomes, they found that the LPS from the Bacteroides species was in charge due to its prevalence, only it failed to activate the immune systems of the babies. Actually, not only did it fail where E. coli succeeded, it actually wrecked the infants’ immune systems’ chances of ever activating LPS from E. coli or other bacteria that usually is able to trigger the effect.

“We believe that E. coli, which lives in the infant gut in all three countries, might be one of the immune educating bacteria responsible for training the immune system early in life. But, we found that if you mix Bacteroides with E. coli it can actually inhibit the immune-activating properties of E. coli, and we suspect this might have consequences on the development of the immune system,” Vatanen explained.

In the Finnish and Estonian babies, the Bacteroides rules the guts and in preventing the activation, it leads to an immunologically very “silent” system, which is not a good thing. The researchers said that this silence probably makes the babies prone to significant inflammation in childhood. They say that the Finnish and Estonian babies’ systems have altered from the natural state of microbiota that has developed over the entire course of human evolution. In the meantime, Russian Karelian infants have gut microbiota that more closely resembles the relationship that humans have developed with bacteria in our guts since the dawn of mankind. The researchers say that improved sanitation and improved standards of living have caused the prevalence and dominance of Bacteroides.

They don’t know exactly how and why this happened, but they are fairly comfortable saying that there is a connection between the altered microbiome within the guts of children in modern countries and the development of immune-related disease.

Interestingly, one theory for eliminating food allergies includes adding specific bacteria to back into children’s guts. For a study published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, researchers gave mice food allergies by simultaneously administering to them a protein found in egg whites and alum, an adjuvant known to induce allergic traits. Then, they treated the food allergies that they had artificially induced. The treatment involved giving the mice Bifidobacterium longum KACC 91563 and Enterococcus faecalis KACC 91532. These strains of bacteria were able to actually suppress the food allergies that they had induced in the mice when they were administered the egg whites protein and the adjuvant at the same time. This offers some hope to children with unnatural gut microbiomes, that they may be able to recover from their autoimmune diseases, but more research is still called for on the hygiene hypothesis front.

Men’s Skin Cancer: What You Don’t Know Could Kill You

Men's skin cancer

A new survey by the American Academy of Dermatology (ADD) shows that men’s skin cancer knowledge falls way below women’s knowledge says the organization in a recent press release. Though skin cancer can affect anyone, it appears that women understand the risks better than men do.

Conducted by Relevant Research Inc. of Chicago, 1,020 respondents completed an online survey about skin cancer this past January and the results were somewhat surprising.

According to the survey, 76% of the women polled understand that there is no such thing as a “healthy tan,” but only 56% of the men did as well. That same percentage of men understand that skin cancer can appear anywhere on the skin including areas that are usually covered with clothing. However, 65% of the women polled knew this. And while 70% of women understand that a “base tan” is not a healthy way to protect yourself from further skin damage, just 54% of men agreed with them.

After all is said and done though, the survey still shows that too many people, both men and women, are still lacking knowledge on skin cancer prevention and let’s face it, what you don’t know could kill you.

To help raise awareness of the possible risks, the AAD has created a “Looking Good in 2016” skin cancer prevention public service announcement to air during the month of May as part of the Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month and especially for “Melanoma Monday” which will be observed on May 2.

“It’s important for both men and women to protect their skin from harmful ultraviolet rays and regularly examine their entire body, including hard-to-see areas, for signs of skin cancer,” says board-certified dermatologist Abel Torres, MD, JD, FAAD, president of the AAD. “While our survey results indicate that men don’t know as much about skin cancer prevention and detection as women, men over 50 have a higher risk of developing melanoma, so it’s especially important for them to be vigilant about protecting and monitoring their skin.”

Part of the ADD campaign includes a new “Looking Good” public service ad which features a man checking himself out in the bathroom mirror and taking time to look for possible skin abnormalities. Though the ad is humorous, The ADD wants to stress the importance of regular skin self-exams, especially with men over the age of 50.

“To keep your skin looking good and reduce your skin cancer risk, the AAD recommends protecting yourself from the sun by seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and using a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher,” Dr. Torres says. “And since skin cancer — including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer — is highly treatable when detected early, it’s important to regularly take a good look at your skin and check it for suspicious spots, asking someone you trust to help you examine hard-to-see areas.”

While skin cancer isn’t picky on the age, race or gender of the person it affects, men appear to be somewhat in the dark about prevention care. Dr. Torres says that men should examine themselves for signs of skin cancer regularly.

“If you notice any irregular spots on your skin, or anything changing, itching or bleeding, see a board-certified dermatologist.”

So, how does one go about a skin self-exam? You can start by visiting SpotSkinCancer.org and download a body mole map that will help you track changes with your skin. The site will also give you instructions on how to examine yourself, or another loved one for that matter. You can even find free “SPOTme” skin cancer screening locations near where you live.

Are You Too Busy To Live?

Is 1 Minute Of Hard Exercise As Good As 45 Minutes Of Effort?

Does 1 Minute Of Exercise Trump A Full 45 Minutes?

Couch potatoes of the world rejoice! It’s possible one minute of hard exercise can get you as fit as a full 45 minutes of effort. Before you injure yourselves while celebrating, it might be good to know there’s a caveat.

Research results published by scientists at McMaster University don’t exactly state that you can get the definition and tone of someone who lifts weights for 45 minutes a few times per week. If you clicked the link expecting a “yes” to your one minute of walking in place and doing nothing else for the rest of the day…sorry to disappoint you.

However, there’s still good news to be had if you really want to exercise, but just don’t have the time.

Martin Gibala, lead author on the study and a professor of kinesiology at McMaster, and his group had a very specific goal in mind.

“We investigated whether sprint interval training (SIT) was a time-efficient exercise strategy to improve insulin sensitivity and other indices of cardiometabolic health to the same extent as traditional moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT).

SIT involved 1 minute of intense exercise within a 10-minute time commitment, whereas MICT involved 50 minutes of continuous exercise per session.”

In other words, they wanted to know if hard exercise in 20-second intervals for about a minute could be effective alternatives to a comparatively lengthy period of exercise. To find the answer, Medical Daily reports his team “recruited 27 men living a sedentary lifestyle.” The group was split into three groups: one performed “sprint interval training,” another did “moderate-intensity continuous training,” and the last group performed no exercise whatsoever.

The results were rather astounding.

“Twelve weeks of brief intense interval exercise improved indices of cardiometabolic health to the same extent as traditional endurance training in sedentary men, despite a five-fold lower exercise volume and time commitment.”

The outcome of the research proved that hard work, even for a relatively short period, will yield positive results. At least, when compared with not exercising at all. Is it really so surprising that running up and down a flight of stairs for a full minute has greater health benefits than performing zero minutes exercise? It shouldn’t be.

That aside, this research will hopefully convince those who still don’t see the value in a daily exercise routine — even a relatively abbreviated one.

Perhaps one of the most effective aspects of this finding, as noted by sportact, is that it eliminates the excuse of having no time to exercise. Said Gibala, “This is a very time-efficient workout strategy. Brief bursts of intense exercise are remarkably effective.”

“The basic principles apply to many forms of exercise. Climbing a few flights of stairs on your lunch hour can provide a quick and effective workout. The health benefits are significant.”

This is good news for Americans who are always on the go and for sedentary individuals discouraged by the thought of exercise because they assume it’s an “hours long” process. Whether you think you don’t have the time or you fear fitness takes too long, you’re now completely wrong — at least according to this research.

High-intensity interval training (and Tabata training specifically) will probably go over well with both crowds. These type of exercises take very little time while helping you exercise hard enough to see results in the long-run. The key words being “exercise hard.”

If you’re going to put in a very short workout, the research shows it’s a waste of time if you aren’t working as hard as you possibly can for that full 20 seconds of non-stop effort. You must maintain the intensity to get an effective workout.

Then, on days where you can find the time, opt for a 45-minute exercise that isn’t as grueling but is still beneficial to your body.

Are We Wrong About Carbohydrates? People Are Turning To Potatoes For Weight Loss

Try These 5 Simple ‘Non Diet’ Tips To Lose Weight

Try These 5 Simple 'Non Diet' Tips To Lose Weight

Let’s face it, losing weight can be extremely hard. What makes it even harder is there are so many choices that in the end you feel overwhelmed and downright confused by the different plans. There’s low carb, high protein, whole foods, clean diet, and vegan just to name a few. To make it easier for you, we’ve compiled five non-dieting tips that work and don’t require for you to give up anything. That’s right; you can still eat bread, pasta, and even brownies.

Most nutritional experts agree that for a diet plan to actually work and help you lose weight, it has to be a healthy diet that doesn’t leave you feeling deprived of your favorite foods. For example, if you love hamburgers and steak, it’s probably best if you avoided a vegan diet. Otherwise, you’ll be miserable.

A good way to kick-start any weight loss program is to focus on whole, natural foods. Stock up on nuts, beans, lean meats and fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s a fail-proof way to cut calories and lose weight.

Another great tip to lose weight is to break up your workday with brief walks, WRAL reported. If your job is a sedentary position, every few hours get up and get the blood moving a little. It’ll increase your metabolism and wake you up. Sitting for long periods has been linked to increasing your odds of chronic health problems. Scientists recommend the way to decrease your chances is move around throughout the day, even if you only have a few minutes to exercise.

Water is so essential, yet it is something that most people overlook. Nutritionists strongly recommend that you ditch the sugary drinks and soda and replace it with plain water. If water is not something you particularly like, try infusing your water with fruit or lime juice. It changes a dull glass of water to something with a hint of flavor without the calories and sugar. It’s a win/win.

Another great weight loss tip is to commit to watching one hour less of television a day. It’s so easy to get trapped into watching tv and snacking without thinking. Instead of watching tv, go outside and do some yard work or find somewhere locally that you can hike or explore the outdoors. If you can’t go outside due to bad weather or other circumstance, open a book and read. It is a great activity that gets you away from the tv and less likely to snack without thinking.

One of the most vital weight loss tips of all is to change your perception of yourself. Body Rock shared that Self-image was probably the most critical aspect of weight loss. If you don’t see yourself as the beautiful and caring person you are, how can you expect to work hard at changing? You have to realize that you are worth the work to achieve a better body and good health. It is worth the sweat and hard work to learn to love yourself. Without self-love, it isn’t possible to truly change your life.

Are you ready to implement a few changes in your life that can help you lose weight? Voice your opinion about the weight loss tips in the comments section below, and come back later for more trending health news and updates.

Dietary Nutritional Supplements Boost Antidepressants? Omega 3 Fish Oil Effective As Mood Enhancing Therapy, Finds Study

Dietary Nutritional Supplements Boost Antidepressants? Omega 3 Fish Oil Effective As Mood Enhancing Therapy, Finds Study

Antidepressants work better when they are taken alongside dietary nutritional supplements. Those suffering from depression could significantly benefit from regularly consuming Omega 3 fish oils, found a recently conducted study.

Four nutritional supplements could do wonders to those taking depression medications. An international study conducted by University of Melbourne researchers and their colleagues from Harvard found how to boost the effectiveness of antidepressants. The findings are quite critical for a large number of people who regularly take medication to treat their depression, but do not feel better.

Millions of people around the world regularly take antidepressants. However, the reported effectiveness is only 50 percent, reported ABC News. In other words, about half of the people who take the medicines that are meant to alleviate their depression, report the medication doesn’t work or works with only marginal effectiveness.

The researchers conducted a detailed statistical analysis of over 40 studies and all of the literature dating back to the 1960s about using nutrient supplements – known as nutraceuticals – to treat depression in tandem with antidepressants, and realized there’s a strong relation between antidepressants and fish oils as well as daily dietary supplements. The findings have been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Researchers found four nutritional supplements, omega 3 fish oils, an activated form of folic acid, methylfolate, vitamin D and a compound called SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) were all helpful in boosting the effectiveness of the medicines that are normally prescribed to patients suffering from depression. Surprisingly, researchers discovered that these supplements can also be used as a mood enhancing therapy when taken with antidepressants, reported First Post.

Interestingly, off all the supplements, fish oils which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acid, was found to be statistically the best, reported Times of India. Omega 3 even had a significant effect over a placebo, shared lead author Jerome Sarris from the University of Melbourne in Australia,

“The strongest finding from our review was that Omega 3 fish oil — in combination with antidepressants — had a statistically significant effect over a placebo. The difference for patients taking both antidepressants and Omega 3, compared to a placebo, was highly significant. This is an exciting finding because here we have a safe, evidence-based approach that could be considered a mainstream treatment.”

“Medical practitioners are aware of the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids, but are probably unaware that one can combine them with antidepressant medication for a potentially better outcome. The take home message for the public is that if they aren’t responding to their anti-depressant medication that there are additional approaches that they can look at to potentially improve the response to their medication.”

Despite the discovered benefits, Sarris added a note of caution,

“We know the data [is] that [with] first-line anti-depressant use and even second-line [anti-depressant use] you’ve still got 50 per cent of people who aren’t in remission. We’re not suggesting that always this is the first-line approach. But we’re suggesting that this gives another potential option for the medical practitioner to consider an evidence-based approach.”

“We always have to be mindful that we’re not recommending people go out and take supplements willy nilly. We’re not telling people to rush out and buy buckets of supplements. Always speak to your medical professional before changing or initiating a treatment.”

The study essentially suggests that intake of dietary supplements, most notably Omega 3 fish oils, could enhance he efficacy of antidepressants in various ways, perhaps directly by altering neurotransmitter activity or indirectly by reducing inflammation, known to contribute to depression, reported Scientific American.

Incidentally, the researchers indicated other supplements like zinc, vitamin C and tryptophan (an amino acid) didn’t help much and neither did folic acid or inositol.

Katy Perry Launches New Makeup Line: Grew Up In A ‘Sheltered Household,’ But Even Her Mom Encouraged Her To Wear Lipstick

Katy Perry CoverGirl makeup

Katy Perry, modern day pop legend, is in love and that’s no secret. Perry was spotted at Coachella with her current flame, Orlando Bloom. According to E! Online, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were being very sweet with each other after they came in 20 minutes after The Kills started their set.

One of the concert goers spoke on how Perry and Bloom were during Coachella.

“They were hugging and with a group of other people. Orlando was behind her and swaying with her to the music. They also were vaping together. They were kissing and very much a couple.”

That Friday night, Perry and Bloom were also spotted watching Ellie Goulding’s set. People in attendance at the concert noticed that they looked happy together and that they made sure to stay close to each other as well, even when they were in a group.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom began their romance during the after party of the Golden Globes, but they didn’t make the official announcement of their relationship until March.

Today also marks a special anniversary for Katy Perry, as it was eight years ago today that her debut number one “I Kissed a Girl” was released. The song brought the singer from relative obscurity into the spotlight, a position that she has steadily maintained ever since.

Not only is Katy Perry a consummate musician and entertainer, she’s also one of the most stylish pop stars today. So it comes as no surprise that, according to Vogue, Katy Perry and CoverGirl have collaborated to launch a lipstick line.

Ever since she kissed a girl and liked it, Perry has had a pretty obvious gravitation to the cherry red chapstick, or lipstick, that was mentioned in the lyrics of the song. Since the release of the iconic song, Katy Perry has oscillated between lipstick shades that are simple and classic, like her signature bright red shade, to shades that are more candy-like. Perry has launched her makeup line, to nobody’s surprise, in a collaboration with CoverGirl that features two mascaras and 13 shades of cool matte lipsticks that range from petal pink to pitch black. The makeup line was designed by Perry for her fans with the aim of making makeup experimentation accessible and affordable for anyone willing to try it.

Katy Perry spoke about her goal with CoverGirl and the collaboration.

“I wanted to push the envelope with CoverGirl. You know, a black lipstick or a blue mascara is very Tumblr — I told them, this is what’s happening online, this is what everyone’s Instagramming.”

The collaborative catalog of Katy Perry’s newly designed makeup sets will be officially called the “CoverGirl Katy Kat Collection” and will be hitting stores in May. The release will begin with the lipstick range only, followed shortly by the mascaras. Eleven lipstick colors will be available in Walmart as exclusive preorders.

Katy Perry’s new makeup line made its first appearance at Coachella, being worn and promoted by herself and her friends. According to Perry, she and her friends picked a lipstick theme for each of the Coachella days, from being romantic Lolitas on one day to vampires on another.

Katy Perry spoke about her childhood and how makeup was a part of it.

“I was always experimenting with makeup.”

Explaining that she grew up in what she referred to as a “sheltered household,” and not being allowed to experiment with risqué fashion, she was nevertheless allowed to, and even encouraged to, wear lipstick.

“My mom would say, ‘You should put on a little lipstick’ — from age 12! It was very strange, but I was wearing lipstick of all colors from 12 and 13. I’d use it on my cheeks, my eyes, and I was very into classic reds. When I started developing my own sense of style, I thought I was a pinup girl. I was obsessed with them at 13: I’d do a black liner and a red lipstick and that was my go-to.”

Amal Clooney Points Out What's So Wrong With Donald Trump's Infamous Anti-Muslim Speech

She and her husband George Clooney have made no secret about their support for the US Democrat Party.

And now in the lead-up to the Presidential Election, Amal Clooney has spoken about her concern for if Republican front-runner Donald Trump wins over Hilary Clinton.

The human rights lawyer was speaking during a BBC News interview on Tuesday when she shared she was "perplexed" about much of the argument he's making as part of his campaign.

Lebanese-born Amal didn't directly address Trump by name but explained why she is confused about his views.

"When you listen to what the leading Republican candidate has been saying about building walls, about excluding Mexicans and saying there has to be a complete shutdown on all Muslims entering…If you actually look at what specifically said in that now-infamous speech about Muslims, he kept saying: 'They only want Jihad', 'They don't believe in our way of life', 'They don't respect our system'," she explained.

"You watch the media coverage afterwards and people, I think, should've been saying, 'Do you mean the 1.5 billion people around the world who fit that description? Do you mean the people who are US citizens? Those who are members of your military?"

Adding that the majority of those who follow the Islamic faith are not violent or extremists, she commented that if the States ends up getting their first female President, it would send a positive message to him.

Harvard Mumps Outbreak Reaches 40 Confirmed Cases, Could Negatively Impact The Commencement

Mumps Outbreak at Harvard

Public health officials have reported the contagious disease mumps is continuing to spread through the Harvard University community as 40 cases have been confirmed. According to ABC News, it was on February 29 of this year that the first outbreak was reported.

“This is really happening in congregate settings where people are in dormitories. College campuses are the perfect storm, because students are sharing all kind so things, they’re in close contact and going to parties.”

Susan Feinberg, a spokeswoman for the Cambridge Public Health Department, reveals that Harvard University is the perfect breeding ground for mumps as college students living on campus are always in close contact and sharing all sorts of things.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, mumps is a contagious virus spread through mucus or saliva in the mouth. While a large portion of the population is vaccinated against the virus at a young age with the MMR vaccine, the vaccine does not guarantee 100 percent protection from the virus. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are considered to be roughly 88 percent effective at preventing the virus. One dose of the vaccine is considered to be 78 percent effective.

The more common symptoms of mumps include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swollen and tender salivary glands under the ears

It is not uncommon for someone to get mumps and have little to no symptoms. Some people do not even know they have the virus. In very rare cases, severe complications of mumps can include inflammation of the ovaries, inflammation of the testicles, or meningitis. This virus is known for giving you a swollen jaw and puffy cheeks. Fortunately, most people who get mumps will recover from it in just a few weeks.

Boston.com reported that there were a dozen students still in isolation with confirmed cases of the mumps at Harvard University as of Monday.

The public health department located in Cambridge, Massachusetts where Harvard is also located determined that all students who were infected with the mumps a month ago had received the vaccine prior to being infected.

The director of the Massachusetts university’s health services, Paul J. Barreira, stated that the virus outbreak at Harvard was beginning to worry him.

“I’m actually more concerned now than I was during any time of the outbreak. I’m desperate to get students to take seriously that they shouldn’t be infecting one another.”

He went on to say that the mumps virus could negatively impact the Harvard University commencement on May 26 of next month if the virus continues to spread.

“If there’s a spike this week, that means those students expose others, so now we’re looking at a potential serious interruption to commencement for students. Students will get infected and then go into isolation.”

To date, there have not been any confirmed cases of the mumps in Cambridge that could not be connected to Harvard University.

Harvard University is promoting preventative tactics. Lindsey Baker, a spokeswoman of Harvard, said that the university urges students to remain vigilant as they wrap up the year to avoid spreading the infection.

“It’s hard to predict how it will go and how much exposure there is. It’s more just those events are coming up, so we just want people to take precautions.”

Baker, students, and other staff members at Harvard are worried the mumps outbreak will cause issues with the commencement. If there is another spike in the outbreak after the recent isolation of more students, it means there were more being infected and spreading the virus. The closer it gets to the commencement, officials may have to ask hard questions regarding whether or not having the commencement and other celebrations is in the best interest of the community of Harvard as it will require everyone to be in close quarters which increases the risk of exposure.

Unfortunately, Harvard students are not alone in this mumps outbreak. Massachusetts has had 12 confirmed cases of mumps across the entire state this year not including the 40 cases at Harvard. Two of these cases were confirmed at UMass Boston and one was confirmed at Bentley University in Waltham.

The longer an individual is in close proximity to someone with the virus, the more likely they are to contract the virus as well. This is true even if you are fully vaccinated against it.

Infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University, Dr. William Schaffner, claims that colleges and universities like Harvard have been the center point for many mumps outbreaks. He went on to say the source of these outbreaks, including the one at Harvard, are students coming from the European Union as it does not require mumps vaccinations.

New Health Study: Pregnant Women Shouldn’t Use Fluconazole To Treat Yeast Infections, FDA Warns it Greatly Increases Miscarriage Risk

New Health Study States Pregnant Women Shouldn't Use Fluconazole To Treat Yeast Infections, FDA Warns it Greatly Increases Miscarriage Risk

The FDA is currently evaluating the safety of oral yeast infection medication in pregnant women following a Danish study. According to Pharmacist, the use of fluconazole (Diflucan) could increase miscarriage risk. If that’s not bad enough, the study revealed that yeast infection medication also increased the rate of fetal abnormalities. Before the newest findings, the drug was thought to have little to no risk to the developing fetus, and deemed safe to prescribe in pregnancy. The FDA issued a statement and wanted doctors to refrain from prescribing the medication to their pregnant patients.

The FDA said in a statement that CDC recommends using topical yeast infection medication in pregnancy because oral fluconazole has an elevated risk of miscarriage and abnormalities, Medscape reported. In 2011, FDA indicated that repeated use of fluconazole with daily doses of 400-800 mg taken orally in the first trimester, may be associated with brachycephaly (flat head syndrome) and cleft palate.

After research, the FDA stated that it doesn’t appear that a single dose of 150 mg would put the pregnant woman at risk. Repeated usage and increased dosage of 400-800 mg would place the expectant mother at higher risk for miscarriage and birth defects. Although, the Danish study brings up new concerns about the safety of low-dose oral fluconazole.

In today’s statement, the Danish study revealed those pregnant women who took fluconazole during weeks seven through twenty-two had an increased risk of miscarriage.

“Most of the oral fluconazole use appeared to be one or two doses of 150 mg.”

The CDC stated that until they can review the current Danish study data, they wanted doctors to exercise “extreme caution” when prescribing fluconazole to expectant mothers.

“Until FDA’s review is complete and more is understood about this study and other available data, we advise cautious prescribing of oral fluconazole in pregnancy.”

The CDC urged women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant to talk to their doctors about alternative yeast infection treatment to reduce the risk of miscarriage and possible birth defects.

FDA is evaluating the results of a Danish study that conclude there is a possible increased risk of miscarriage with the use of oral fluconazole (Diflucan) for yeast infections. FDA is also reviewing additional data and will communicate final conclusions and recommendations when the review is complete.

Pregnant women are prone to yeast infection because the changes in hormones during pregnancy. It is thought, according to Live Science, that the increased estrogen levels change the normal pH levels of the vagina which leads to an overgrowth of yeast.

For many expectant mothers, a yeast infection is an uncomfortable and miserable experience, and they will do anything to make it go away. Pregnancy without any infection or complication is not the most comfortable experience. Even though a yeast infection can be miserable, the FDA wants doctors to try other (natural) methods before recommending oral fluconazole. They recommend topical, over the counter medication and natural methods such as consuming more yogurt or probiotics to combat any symptoms.

People With A Bad Sense Of Direction Prone To ‪Alzheimer’s Disease? Getting Easily Lost Is A Warning Sign, Caution Researchers

People With A Bad Sense Of Direction Prone To ‪Alzheimer's Disease, Claim Researchers – Getting Easily Lost May Be A Bad Sign After All

People who routinely get lost or seem to have a very bad sense of direction may be susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease. New research indicates those who seem unable to navigate unfamiliar surroundings may develop the degenerative disorder in the future.

New research seems to indicate people who keep getting lost or have a lot of difficulty navigating may be heading towards Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers claim such symptoms can indicate the disease is lurking in the future. With some simple tests, people can confidently predict, almost 20 years in advance, if they will develop the disorder.

Having difficulty remembering how to get around in new surroundings could be an extremely early indicator of Alzheimer’s, concluded a study that involved a rather small group of participants. If the findings do get corroborated in further research, doctors could easily diagnose Alzheimer’s long before someone shows obvious memory problems, said researchers from Washington University in St. Louis, reported U.S. News.

The study consisted of 16 individuals, who were divided into three groups. The first group consisted of patients that showed symptoms of early stage Alzheimer’s. The second group of participants consisted of people with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. These people’s brains showed clear changes in the brain that are indicative of the neurodegenerative disease. The third group of people appeared normal but investigation of fluid from around their brain and spinal cord, called cerebrospinal fluid, showed marked changes which were typical in Alzheimer’s disease. All these participants were tested against a control group of 42 healthy people who displayed no signs of the disease whatsoever.

The participants were then asked to navigate a maze and were judged on their ability to do so. All of the participants were either given 20 minutes to learn a preselected route or a choice of navigating the maze after exploring the same with a joystick. In other words, the participants were either given a map which they had to memorize or they had to decipher their way out by making a mental image of the same.

The maze had interconnecting hallways with four wallpaper patterns and 20 landmarks. The core intention behind the test was to see how well the participants could learn and follow the pre-set route and how well they could learn to create and use a mental map of the maze.

The group of participants had to either recreate their set route or find their way to landmarks within the maze, reported News. The researchers were quite amazed with the findings. They discovered the group with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease didn’t face much trouble memorizing a predetermined route. However, they struggled a lot to create a mental map of the maze. Nonetheless, this group eventually managed to get over the mental hurdle and successfully navigated through the maze just as well as the control group.

The group with early-stage Alzheimer’s struggled through both the tasks and performed poorly, indicating the bad sense of direction could be an early warning sign, which might be easily overlooked. Incidentally, the findings match well with other research on early stage Alzheimer’s patients. The researchers concluded that multiple aspects associated with navigation or the brain’s inability to handle directions could be very subtle, but definitive indicators to detect the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease, reported UPI. Speaking about the research, study author Denise Head, associate professor of psychological and brain sciences Washington University, said the following.

“These findings suggest that navigational tasks designed to assess a [mental] mapping strategy could represent a powerful new tool for detecting the very earliest Alzheimer’s disease-related changes in cognition.”

Researchers, however, cautiously add that having difficulty finding your way around new neighborhoods shouldn’t be taken as a sure indicator the person is destined to develop Alzheimer’s disease in the future.

Exercise Study: One Minute Of An Intense Activity Equals 45 Minutes Of Moderate Effort Exercise

Exercise Study Said One Minute Of A Intense Workout Equals 45 Minutes Of Moderate Effort Exercise

It just so happens, according to a recent exercise study, that everyone has time to exercise enough to see a health reward. PLOS One reported that an exercise study found that one minute of intense exercise equaled 45 minutes of low impact to moderate exercise. They found it only took 60 seconds of intense effort exercise to see benefits such as increased endurance and increased cardiovascular health.

The experts discovered in the exercise study that a brief burst of energy in the workout was a useful tool that could benefit any fitness program. In fact, many exercise programs implement 60-120 seconds of high-intensity activity, followed by a period of rest. They refer to this type of exercise program as H.I.I.T (high interval intensity training).

“This is a very time-efficient workout strategy. Brief bursts of intense exercise are remarkably effective.”

For the study, they used 27 sedentary men who were broken up into three groups: those performing intense workouts, those doing moderate training, and those who remained inactive. In addition to monitoring the men’s increased endurance, the researchers also observed their cardiovascular health and how their bodies regulated their blood glucose, Voice of America reported.

Most people state the number one reason they lack physical activity is they simply don’t have enough time. After family and work obligations, many people are left with no time and very little energy to devote to exercise. The study proves that you don’t need to exercise an hour or more at the gym to receive positive health benefits including increased endurance, stabilized blood sugar, and increased metabolism.

“Our study shows that an interval-based approach can be more efficient, you can get health and fitness benefits comparable to the traditional approach, in less time.”

The intense training in the study consisted of three 20 seconds (intense) cycle sprints (on a stationary bike), including a two-minute warm-up and a three-minute cool down. They also implemented two minutes of easy cycling in between the hard sprints.

The moderate group in the exercise study consisted of a 45-minute moderate effort of cycling and had a two-minute warm up and three-minute cool down.

At the end of the study, they found the results of the intense and moderate focus groups to be very similar. It brought them to the conclusion that the high-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T) could replace the typical 45-60 minutes gym workout.

In the exercise study, the men didn’t change anything other than their fitness routine. They still ate the same diet and didn’t alter their sleeping schedule in any way. The study observed the men for 12 weeks and found that was enough time for them to see gains in their endurance, muscle mass, and blood glucose levels. Although weight loss was not a goal of the study, several men reported they lost weight while participating in the exercise study, Cosmopolitan said.

The men in the study were in their late 20s and were said to be “out of shape” at the time. In just 12 weeks, the participants were able to get in better shape, improve their cardiovascular health, and had the added benefit of increased energy throughout the day. The exercise study proves that all it takes is one minute, and you can get in shape and improve your health.

Measles Outbreak Spreads Because Of Anti-Vaxxer Fears

Daniela Chavarriaga holds her daughter Emma while she gets her measles vaccination.

Measles are back. Six cases of measles were diagnosed in Memphis, TN, in the past four days, according to WREG News Channel 3. Dr. Helen Morrow of the Shelby County Health Department admitted more cases were likely. That’s more than the total number of measles cases in the entire United States from January through March this year. Ten cases of measles in four months may not seem like much, until you remember the Center for Disease Control (CDC) had announced that measles were eradicated in the United States in the year 2000.

Unfortunately, measles didn’t stay eradicated. Recent outbreaks are being blamed on anti-vaxxers, people who mistakenly believe that the MMR vaccination — which prevents measles, mumps, and rubella — is more dangerous than measles.

In California last month, according to the Daily Intelligencer, Yuba River Charter School was closed for a few days after a student was diagnosed with measles. Many of the school’s students had not been immunized and thus were at greater risk of catching the disease. Dr. Karen Smith, Director of the California Department of Public Health, reminded parents of the importance of vaccinating their children to prevent measles.

“It’s concerning to receive a report of a child with measles because it’s a disease that can easily be prevented…. Immunization is the best way to protect against measles. Two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine are approximately 97 percent effective at preventing disease in exposed persons.”

Many people regard measles as a simple childhood disease, a few days of discomfort, but nothing to worry about. For most people who catch the disease, they’re lucky enough that that’s all they suffer. Measles can lead to pneumonia and encephalitis, which in turn can lead to permanent brain damage or death.

Dr Ava Easton, Chief Executive of The Encephalitis Society, told The Independent that encephalitis is still a deadly disease in the 21st century.

Six thousand people are diagnosed with encephalitis each year, that’s 16 people every day. This, it seems is also considered an underestimate as encephalitis is very difficult to diagnose and like in the case of Roald Dahl’s daughter, is sadly often missed.”

Roald Dahl dedicated two of his books to his daughter Olivia, James and the Giant Peach when she was still alive, and The BFG to her memory after she died of measles. { James and the Giant Peach was made into a Disney movie in 1996 and The BFG will be released by Disney Studios this July.} Olivia Dahl died of measles in 1962, when she was seven-years-old. This was before the discovery of a reliable measles vaccine. Her father wrote an open letter about her death and the importance of immunization.

“It is not yet generally accepted that measles can be a dangerous illness. Believe me, it is. In my opinion parents who now refuse to have their children immunised are putting the lives of those children at risk. In America, where measles immunisation is compulsory, measles like smallpox, has been virtually wiped out. Here in Britain, because so many parents refuse, either out of obstinacy or ignorance or fear, to allow their children to be immunised, we still have a hundred thousand cases of measles every year. Out of those, more than 10,000 will suffer side effects of one kind or another. At least 10,000 will develop ear or chest infections. About 20 will die. LET THAT SINK IN. Every year around 20 children will die in Britain from measles.”

Roald Dahl wrote that letter in 1986. At that time, nearly every American child was vaccinated against measles and the disease was “virtually wiped out” while an average of twenty children a year were dying of measles in Great Britain. By the year 2000, the CDC declared measles eradicated in the United States. And now in 2016, a serious but preventable disease is back.

Medical researchers agree that the reason for the resurgence of measles in this country is because of anti-vaxxer fears and sentiments. Many anti-vaxxers are concerned that the chemicals in MMR can harm their children. There is a widespread but scientifically discredited belief that the MMR vaccine can lead to autism. Andrew Wakefield, the doctor who started the rumor, lost his medical license as a result of his research being proven deliberately fraudulent. The CDC, the UK National Health Service, and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences agree that the MMR vaccine does not cause autism.

Many people with autism are offended that parents are willing to risk their children’s lives because they think the chance of dying of pneumonia or encephalitis is better than having an autistic child. Sarah Kurchak’s essay on the subject has gone viral. Kurchak points out the danger to those who aren’t vaccinated yet or can’t, because of medical complications, be vaccinated.

“Through no fault of their own, unvaccinated children, immunocompromised people, babies too young to receive the vaccination and the occasional vaccinated person (no vaccine is 100 per cent because science is not magic) across the continent are suffering from an infection that was essentially eliminated from the U.S. in 2000. All because a sizable group of mostly-privileged parents have decided that reviving a group of life-threatening diseases and potentially inflicting them on their loved ones and neighbors is infinitely preferable to having an autistic child.”

Those who can’t be vaccinated depend on “herd immunity.” Herd immunity is protecting an entire community from a disease by immunizing a large enough percentage of the population. Measles is highly contagious, so it requires 95 percent of the community to be immunized in order to protect those people who aren’t immunized yet or can’t be immunized because of medical complications. Mumps, being less contagious, only requires 75-85 percent of a community to be immunized. Anti-vaxxers create weak links in the chain of immunity, letting diseases slip through. This endangers not just their own families, but other people: infants too young to be vaccinated, the medically fragile, or the immunocompromised.

A measles vaccination has existed since 1963. An improved vaccination was developed in 1968. Vaccines for mumps and rubella were combined with the measles vaccine in the MMR in 1971. This is 21st century; shouldn’t measles be a thing of the past?

This is How to Look Good While Traveling, According to Gwyneth Paltrow's Stylist

She has dressed the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Uma Thurman and Saoirse Ronan and now Elizabeth Saltzman wants to help the rest of the world look their most fabulous at all times. The celebrity stylist knows that no matter how fashionable the girl, traveling can often be the time when we let our sense of style slip. But now she's shared tips on how to stay looking healthy and trendy like a true jet-setter.

Elizabeth named Victoria Beckham, Amal Clooney and Kendall Jenner in her top three famous travelers list with British Airways, and with such a good sense of style judgement, we want to know more about how to compete with fashion icons.

Pack light

If possible I prefer a carry-on only unless you are going for more than four days. Make your outfits versatile so you can use things more than once. Plan ahead, for instance if you pack a navy blue tuxedo as an outfit to wear in the evening, you can also use the tuxedo jacket with your jeans, white shirt and flats for the day.

Moisturize well

Travel with clean, well-moisturized skin. Everyone has their favorite products. I swear by Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream and Shiseido Eye Mask. I love to freshen my face up during the flight with the Crème de La Mer Mist. I can't travel without these products!

Hydrate to the max

Water, water, water. Hydrating yourself inside as well as outside helps with jet lag and dehydration. Also, keeps hair looking glossy and your skin looking fresh.

Stretch it out

Every hour you should get up and stretch your legs and do at least 30 seconds or one minute of exercise to get your blood circulating. I always stretch my arms over my head and move my hands like I'm playing a phantom piano. Try leaning against the doorway to stretch your shoulders and to open up your chest. And for three simple options without even getting up from your seat: try a seated spinal twist; a half-forward bend; and slow neck rolls, five times in each direction.

Brush your teeth

Nothing is more welcoming than a pretty smile. I can't fly without toothpaste and a toothbrush. Keeping my mouth fresh and my teeth clean is a priority and certainly one that is appreciated when greeting people after a long flight.

Wear an up-do

I like to tie my hair up on a plane. I think it gets less static and less dirty that way, and if I twist it up into a bun I can let it out when I deplane. Magic: it's like an instant blow-dry effect.

Don't forget your Sunny Gs

Sunglasses are a great way to accessorize an outfit while traveling. It's the ultimate jet-setter accessory.

Wrap up

Scarves, everyone should have one in their bag while traveling. Great for warmth on the plane. They can be used as a blanket for your children or hoodie or neck warmer. I also love them during my trip to change up an outfit, it can be a sarong or an evening shawl.

Get with the time zone

Reset your watch and try to eat and sleep in sync with your new time zone as soon as you board. Immerse yourself in that film you've always wanted to see.

Invest in some headgear

Hats are hard to pack so choose one wisely. A fedora works in many situations, it's great for sun protection, it's great for styling and it's great if you didn't have time to style your hair before traveling.

Don the ideal bag

Bring a bag that isn't too big to carry and that doesn't unbalance your shoulders. The last thing you need is a crater-sized knot in your back. As my tote, I would choose something simple and streamlined, like the Michael Kors Collection Large Leather Tote; or opt for a little whimsy with the Tory Burch Penn Applique Canvas Tote. As for a carry-on suitcase, I love the Tumi Tegra Lite Carry-On; the Victorinox Spectra 2.0 Carry-on.

Select the right shoes

Rather than packing more shoes than are necessary for your trip it is great to travel in ones that you can use more than once. If that means you are wearing a pair of heels, just remember to take them off in flight, stretch your toes, put on your circulation socks and relax.

Wear a convenient ensemble

Every person is different, layers are easy for traveling. You can always add one when you are cold or take one off if you get too warm.

Pick the perfect coat

A great trench by Burberry Prorsum can travel the world with you. It goes over a LBD (little black dress) or blue jeans. It is extremely versatile. For instance look at Heidi Klum and Amal Clooney's airport looks.

Tone down the accessories

Wear minimal jewelry when traveling and pack statement pieces. I love jewelry, so I always have a small Smythson travel case with me where I keep my accessories.

Boost your immunity

I love vitamins and vitamin boosters, Berocca is a savior as is Bee Prepared. After a long flight anything that revitalizes is great to have on hand.

Have easy makeup at hand

For a quick touch up before landing. Lips, bronzer and concealer are all you need. Make sure you have a small bottle of your favourite fragrance too.

Get your beauty sleep

Use the time wisely. Get some rest. Use the flight as a mini-vacation. You're away from your emails! You have the luxury of not being bothered for a few solid hours so de-stress with a coloring book for adults. Write a letter to an old friend, and just take some time to think and savour this uninterrupted sojourn.
