Kylie Jenner Gets "Dirrty" as Christina Aguilera For Halloween

After dressing up as a skeleton for her Halloween dinner on Friday night, Kylie Jenner took things up a notch and re-created Christina Aguilera's iconic look from her 2002 "Dirrty" music video at a Halloween party on Saturday night. Clad in a red and white striped bikini top, leather chaps, blonde extensions, blue contact lenses, and fake piercings, not only did Kylie totally nail Christina's look, but she even got the dance moves down too. If this is how great she looked two days before Halloween, we can't wait to see what she does on the actual holiday.

Heidi Klum's Halloween Costume Will Definitely Surprise You

After months of anticipation and a few casually dropped hints, Heidi Klum finally revealed her Halloween costume on Monday night. The German supermodel and America's Got Talent judge showed up to her annual Halloween bash in NYC with five doppelgängers. The elaborate looks featured blond wigs, ivory and gold leotards, nude boots, and prosthetics, which she gave a sneak peek of via Instagram before the big event. Earlier this week, Heidi donned a decidedly more pared-down look when she dressed as the Maddie Ziegler to Ellen DeGeneres's Sia on the Halloween edition of the comedian's talk show. The two showed off their range during a performance of Sia's "Chandelier," and Heidi made hints about her costume being "made in Germany," which is where the model was born.

Peanut Allergy Treatment With Skin Patches Soon: Tiny Wearable Patch Delivers Small Amounts Of Peanut Protein To Build Immunity And Resistance To Allergic Reaction

A new skin patch could help kids develop immunity and tolerance to peanuts. According to the researchers, nearly half of the children, who participated in the year-long trial, were able to consume 10 times more peanut protein than they could at the start of the study.

A tiny wearable skin patch could soon be the answer to the deadly reactions that millions of kids suffer, after being exposed to mere trace amounts of peanut protein. Although the study, and immunotherapy treatment that the peanut patch relies on, needs to be further explored and corroborated, the wearable patches could be a reliable solution for millions of children who are allergic to peanuts.

The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, states that the children’s immunity could be taught to work against peanut allergy. It relies on the well-known, but yet to be widely medically corroborated fact that the best way to treat peanut allergy is to expose children to small doses of peanuts right from their infanthood.

According to study author Dr. Marshall Plaut, the new approach “looks promising and has potential.” Dr. Plaut is chief of the food allergy, atopic dermatitis and allergic mechanisms section at the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Plaut’s research team tested 74 volunteers with the new Viaskin peanut patch. All the children and young adults, aged 4 to 25, who participated in the trials, were allergic to peanuts, reported U.S. News.

The Viaskin peanut patch essentially contains varying doses of peanut protein. When worn on the skin, it gradually releases the protein through the epidermis. The therapy relies on the belief that the immune system can be taught or programed to gradually develop a tolerance to peanuts. According to Dr. Daniel Rotrosen, of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, which is funding the ongoing clinical trial, such experiments have been conducted before,

“Other recent advances have relied on an oral route that appears difficult for approximately 10 to 15 percent of children and adults to tolerate.”

During this trial, the volunteers were randomly selected to wear either a high-dose patch (250 micrograms), a low-dose patch (100 micrograms) or a placebo patch. These tiny patches had to be stuck either on the arm or between their shoulder blades. The patches were to be replaced daily. After 365 days, the researchers tested how well the participants were able to resist strong allergic reaction to peanuts.

Essentially, the researchers also tested if the patches were able to develop immunity and help the kids eat peanuts. Hence they evaluated whether the participants were able to consume at least 10 times more peanut protein than they could at the study start, under supervision during the allergy challenge, reported CBS News.

The results of the tests were quite promising, if not ground-breaking. About 46 percent of participants who wore the low-dose patch, and 48 percent within the high-dose group could consume the amount of peanut protein with no noticeable allergic reaction. Interestingly, about 12 percent of those from the placebo group developed resistance as well.

Despite a few cases of mild skin reactions, the Viaskin peanut allergy patch has proved to be “promising” and “potentially effective.” Moreover, the research indicated the patch was the most effective on children ages 4 to 11, and significantly less effective on older participants, reported CNN.

Mylan, the maker of EpiPen, which is the essential defense against allergic reactions from peanuts, has increased the price of the epinephrine auto-injectors by more than 500 percent in the last few years. Though competitors like Auvi-Q are being promised as cheaper alternatives to EpiPen, solutions like a wearable skin patch that could develop immunity against peanuts is certainly something parents of these children can look forward to.

On Sunday, a source told British newspaper Sunday Express, "He's happier than he's been for many years." Although the insider claims the two are taking things slow, Harry is said to be "besotted" with Meghan, and the pair is "taking each week as it comes and just enjoying each other's company," adding, "It's fair to say that they love seeing each other and there's a definite chemistry between them. Male Birth Control Effective But Has Negative Side Effects, Study Finds

Man receives flu shot.

Male birth control injections are highly effective but may come with some significant negative side effects, according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

The study looked at a group of 320 test subjects comprised of “Healthy men, aged 18–45 years, and their 18- to 38-year-old female partners, both without known fertility problems.”

The male subjects were injected with a combination of norethisterone enanthate and testosterone undecanoate every eight weeks, according to the report. The combination of the drugs drastically reduces live sperm counts in men.

The study sought to test both the effectiveness of the drugs in suppressing sperm levels in healthy men, and the reversibility of that suppression once treatment ended.

The results were promising in terms of both suppression and recovery.

“Of the 320 participants, 95.9 of 100 continuing users suppressed to a sperm concentration less than or equal to 1 million/mL within 24 weeks,” the study found. “During the efficacy phase of up to 56 weeks, 4 pregnancies occurred among the partners of the 266 male participants, with the rate of 1.57 per 100 continuing users. The cumulative reversibility of suppression of spermatogenesis after 52 weeks of recovery was 94.8 per 100continuing users.”

That 1.57 percent of pregnancies compares to 5 to 9 percent rate of unexpected pregnancies among users of oral birth control pills, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. This may suggest that male birth control injections could potentially be more effective than oral contraceptives commonly taken by women. However, it should be noted that the number of subjects in the male birth control study was relatively small. More extensive research would be required to provide greater accuracy.

While the success rate in terms of suppressing sperm levels is promising, there was a downside to the research. Several of the participants who took the male birth control suffered negative side effects. Some of the side effects were significant enough for the men to abandon the study.

“Twenty men discontinued the study due to product-related side effects,” the report reads.

“Of these 20, 6 men discontinued only for changes in mood, and 6 men discontinued for the following single reasons: acne, pain or panic at first injection, palpitations, hypertension, and erectile dysfunction. Eight men discontinued for more than 1 side effect, including multiple reasons related to changes in mood.”

Despite the fact that the male birth control drugs reduce sperm count, an increased libido was another reoccurring side effect listed in the report.

The report concludes that the “contraceptive efficacy was relatively good compared with other reversible methods available for men” but acknowledges that the “frequencies of mild to moderate mood disorders were relatively high.”

The side effects were troubling enough for the researchers to prematurely terminate the recruitment and injections “following the recommendation of an external safety review committee.”

Despite the promising results of the effectiveness of the drugs, the side effects and other factors may prevent male birth control may not become widely available any time soon.

CBS SF Bay Area reports that pharmaceutical companies do not appear to be particularly interested in male birth control.

“Their concern may be there’s a lack of profitability, maybe there is a question of gender bias,” CBS medical contributor Dr. Tara Narula says. “There’s a concern of regulatory hurdles. In addition, it’s not as easy to stop 1,500 sperm that are produced per second as opposed to one egg per month.”

The report has been attracting considerable attention on social media and has been trending on Facebook. Some readers and journalists have not taken the supposed side effects of male birth control as seriously as others and allude to the type of gender bias Narula referred to.

The women’s interest website Broadly posted an article to Facebook with the comment “Dudes, suck it up—just like women have for decades,” referring to the common “side effects and responsibility of hormonal contraception” that women endure when taking birth control pills.

There is still no definitive date for when hormonal male birth control may become available. An article published by Tech Times early this year suggested that the likely date is some time in 2018.

Fatal Measles Complication SSPE Killed Children And Adults Years After The Fact

Fatal Measles Complication SSPE Killed Children And Adults Years After The Fact

A measles complication that has been known to kill children, and even adults, years after they recover from the illness, isn’t as rare as experts had once thought.

Previously, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, or SSPE, was thought to have affected about one in 100,000 previous measles patients, making it a fairly rare disease in pre-vaccine times. But new research released on Friday at the IDWeek expo in New Orleans suggests that this measles complication is much more common than once believed. According to MedPage Today, SSPE may occur in about one in 600 patients, depending on how old the patient was when they suffered from measles.

The findings were based on analysis of 17 earlier cases, primarily those who had contracted the illness via the California measles epidemic of 1988 through 1990.

SSPE is a condition that could lay dormant for several years in a person’s system, and may manifest a good four to eight years after a patient is infected by measles. The disease’s classical symptoms initially include behavioral changes, but progresses toward more intense seizures over time, until patients become comatose. MedPage Today notes that patients may die about one to three years after the initial SSPE diagnosis.

Study lead author Dr. James Cherry of UCLA acknowledged that this measles complication was once thought to be “quite rare,” even as a German study in 2013 had hinted that the disease occurs in about one in 1,700 measles cases among children five years old or younger. He also warned that the 1-in-600 rate may be a modest estimate, due to the “really striking” revelations in his team’s study.

A separate report from the Washington Post centered on how vaccination is very important for anybody who is eligible to get an MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine. This could result in herd immunity, which protects children that otherwise wouldn’t be immune from any of the diseases in question, thereby protecting them from SSPE as well. The complication, aside from being “100 percent fatal” once it becomes active, has no known cure, and clinicians have yet to determine the trigger that reactivates the virus.

Babies below 12 months of age are especially vulnerable to the aforementioned measles complication, as their age excludes them from receiving the MMR jab. The first dose of this vaccine is typically given out when a child reaches 12 to 15 months of age.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Dr. Cherry succinctly and indirectly warned against the dangers of parents delaying vaccinations for their children, or refusing to have their children get the necessary jabs to protect them from measles and other infections. Government data shows only 92 percent of children in America aged 19 to 35 months old have gotten MMR vaccines.

“This is really frightening and we need to see that everyone gets vaccinated.”

Measles was once thought to be completely eradicated in the United States, but recent government statistics suggest that the disease is returning to prominence. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been 54 cases reported in 2016, which nonetheless remains far from the total 667 cases reported in 2014, and the 189 documented in 2015.

The figures from 2014 represented the highest number of measles cases in America since the turn of the 21st century. According to the Washington Post, a good chunk of the cases reported in 2014 were from Ohio’s unvaccinated Amish communities. Last year’s count, on the other hand, included 131 cases that originated from an outbreak at Disneyland, the worst in California in 15 years.

Although SSPE is a measles complication that primarily affects children, with the average age of diagnosis at 12-years-old, Dr. Cherry’s study showed that the age range was actually three to 35 years old, suggesting that it could affect adults as well.

Michelle Bridges Stresses The Importance Of Breakfast Amid Criticism Of Post-Baby Fitness Claims

Michelle Bridges post baby pregnancy fitness workout

Michelle Bridges, the famous Australian personal trainer, is popularly recognized as a tough trainer on the Australian version of The Biggest Loser, an reality television series. In the show, obese contestants compete against each other with the help of their trainers to lose weight. Bridges’ popularity resulted in her being featured in Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Ubisoft’s Xbox game that helps fitness enthusiasts perform various workouts and activities as suggested in the game.

In addition to helping contestants of the reality television show, Michelle Bridges has started her own 12-week body transformation program, designed to help Australians get in shape by focusing on fitness, nutrition, and proper mindset. Apart from training people to achieve effective workouts, the trainer also encourages people to follow a diet that not only helps maintain their weight, but energizes their body while staying active throughout the day.

Michelle Bridges authored Crunch Time Cookbook in which she had shared 100 weight-loss recipes, and she recently launched a new cookbook called Food For Life, with 200 delicious recipes that cater to anyone’s long-term weight loss program. Michelle Bridges also made her mark on Celebrity MasterChef Australia where she turned out to be quite an impressive contestant: she very confidently prepared Spiced Lamb Cutlets with Eggplant and Currant Couscous, her signature Moroccan dishes.

In the popular trainer’s opinion, an effective workout regime and overall good health can be adversely affected if people make bad eating choices. In her opinion, too many people who are trying to lose weight are cutting down on important foods while pursuing a weight loss program. In many instances, breakfast becomes the most neglected meal of the day and, according to the Daily Telegraph, Bridges spoke about how important it is for fitness enthusiasts to focus on having a wholesome breakfast.

“Most people don’t eat enough breakfast and feel depleted in the back end of the day. So, it’s no coincidence that three of my six energy-boosting foods make a kick a** breakfast that will sustain you until lunch.”

Michelle Bridges encourages people to have oats, bananas, walnuts, broccoli, salmon, and sweet potato as part of a healthy breakfast. Additionally, the Australian trainer recommends eating a combination of three dates and six macadamias when tempted to indulge in a sweet treat in the afternoon.

Michelle Bridges has become an inspiration for many pregnant women who wish to regain a youthful and fit body shape after delivering their babies. The trainer created a post-birth fitness regimen that not only prepares the body for coping with the realities of childbirth, it also claims to help a new mother recover from the birth in addition to restoring much-needed energy. News Australia reports that 75 per cent of women suffer from body injuries during labor while 62 per cent of women have injuries which are not healed within one year.

However, there’s a large section of women who are very skeptical about the trainers recommended fitness regime, because a woman’s body takes a long time to heal after childbirth. According to News Australia, one anonymous woman commented that it’s wrong to expect miracles from Michelle Bridges’ fitness regime because every woman has a body that’s unique.

“She [Michelle Bridges] implied that the reason why she was able to get back into it so quickly was because she was so fit before she gave birth. But it’s not that simple. Everyone has a different experience.”

However, Michelle Bridges claims that she benefited from the exercises which allowed her to re-embark on her usual running workout just a few weeks after she delivered her son, Axel. Currently, the fitness trainer has no plans to return to The Biggest Loser series as she’s too busy enjoying motherhood and her nine-month old son. According to the Daily Mail, an enthusiastic Michelle bridges is trying to be both a loving mother and fitness trainer to Axel, joking that she’s teaching her son the perfect way to do a burpee, a type of aerobic exercise.

Cranberries Don’t Cure UTIs After All, New Study Claims

Cranberries Don’t Cure UTIs After All, New Study Claims

Cranberries may be the go-to means of dealing with urinary tract infections, may it be curing them or helping prevent them. But new research suggests that this folk remedy isn’t that effective after all, particularly when taken by older women.

It’s been a hotly-debated topic for years, even decades – do cranberries have anti-bacterial capabilities that help people, especially females, avoid UTIs and other similar bacterial infections? While there have been medical studies that have debunked their efficacy as nothing but pseudo-science, there are also a lot of companies that push cranberry juice and capsules as an effective way of curing, treating, or preventing UTIs. According to a MinnPost report, companies such as Ocean Spray with commercial interest in selling cranberry byproducts have funded their share of studies that trumpet the efficacy of the fruit in dealing with bacterial infections.

A study published Thursday in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) suggests that cranberry capsules aren’t effective in treating UTIs in elderly women who live in nursing homes. According to MinnPost, the Yale University-led team of researchers enrolled 147 women in the study, and had gone with women who live in nursing homes due to their high risk of developing UTIs; when the research started, close to a third (31 percent) of the women had bacteria or pus in their urine at that time. The researchers also went with female subjects as women, regardless of age, are far more likely than men to develop urinary tract infections.

The women were then randomly divided into two groups, one group being asked to take two cranberry capsules a day, and the other group given placebo capsules that looked identical to the actual supplements with cranberries. The actual capsules had 72 milligrams of proanthocyanidi combined – this is the active agent in the supplements that has a similar effect to drinking 20 ounces of cranberry juice.

For one year, the women were asked to take either the real cranberry capsules or the placebo, and neither they nor their caregivers were informed about the type of capsule they were consuming. As this was a double-blinded study, not even the researchers knew which woman belonged to what group. Through the one-year observation period, the results were similar; 10 women in the cranberry capsule group and 12 women in the placebo group developed clear UTI symptoms, making for a statistically insignificant difference.

If cranberries don’t really work in treating UTIs, is there any viable alternative? There is, and the alternative is as simple as it can get. MinnPost cited information from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) website, suggesting that people consume plain water to help flush out any bacteria from their system. The website also warned against the possible side effects of drinking large amounts of cranberry juice, such as upset stomach and a heightened chance of kidney stones.

University of Manitoba infectious disease specialist Dr. Lindsay Nicolle wrote an editorial accompanying the new study, saying that it’s “time to move on” from cranberries. She stressed that the fruit’s byproducts are not a medically-viable way to prevent or cure UTIs.

“A person may, of course, choose to use cranberry juice or capsules for whatever reasons she or he wishes. However, clinicians should not be promoting cranberry use by suggesting that there is proven, or even possible, benefits.”

Although the study did provide evidence of cranberry byproducts not doing much good in helping elderly women avoid UTIs, Ocean Spray released a statement that still asserts the fruit’s advantages. According to Newsmax, Ocean Spray spokeswoman Kellyanne Dignan brought up earlier studies that hyped the benefits of cranberries, adding that the company “takes great pride” in its cranberry-based products and their health benefits.

Does Broccoli Have Anti-Aging Powers? NMN Compound Found In Vegetable Benefits Older Mice, Study Shows

A Tray Of Broccoli Seen In England

Most have probably heard at one time or another that broccoli has benefits. Some may not like the taste of broccoli, but the idea of eating greens to stay healthy is hardly a new concept. New research has now provided another reason to think about including broccoli in your diet.

In a new paper, which was published in Cell Metabolism on October 27, researchers found that supplementing older mice with a compound known as nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), which is found in broccoli, may help to slow down the aging process. According to the study, the older mice who received NMN supplementation experienced a number of benefits, such as improved vision, better liver function, higher energy levels, stronger bone density and reduced weight.

In addition to broccoli, NMN can also be found in cucumbers, avocados, cabbage and edamame, according to the study. Though the study was conducted with mice, Dr. Shin-ichiro Imai of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis suggests that the research may also translate to possible benefits in humans.

“This means older mice have metabolism and energy levels resembling that of younger mice. Since human cells rely on this same energy production process, we are hopeful this will translate into a method to help people remain healthier as they age.”

As can be read in the studies’ summery, a big part of human health rests on the body’s ability to “manufacture and use energy.” As people age, cells have a lessened ability to produce energy, for reasons still unknown. Apparently, NMN may work as something of an elixir, with the authors of the study saying that it appears to help compensate for the “loss of energy production.”

It is further explained that with age, the body loses its ability to make NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). In the past, it has been discovered that NAD is ineffective when given to mice directly. Giving the mice NMN dissolved in drinking water proved to be an effective, indirect method of solving this problem. It is explained that the NAD appeared in the bloodstream in a matter of minutes and was ultimately converted to NAD.

“We wanted to make sure that when we give NMN through drinking water, it actually goes into the blood circulation and into tissues,” Imai said in the paper. “Our data show that NMN absorption happens very rapidly.”

The researchers studied three different groups of male mice: those who were given high-doses of NMN-supplemented water, those who received a lower dose, and the final category was a control group, which did not receive any NMN. The research began when the mice were five months old and went on for a full year.

It is also explained that when given to younger mice, the benefits were not as noticeable. Dr. Jun Yoshino, who also contributed to the study, explained that the younger mice do not become “healthier young mice,” largely because their supply of the compound is still plentiful.

“NMN supplementation has no effect in the young mice because they are still making plenty of their own NMN. We suspect that the increase in inflammation that happens with aging reduces the body’s ability to make NMN and, by extension, NAD.”

The next question that many are now wondering is the issue of whether or not NMN could lead to a longer lifespan. While that may be the hypothesis, the answer will have to wait.

“Those NMN [fed] mice definitely have longer health-span – entire lifespan, we’re not sure, but if this keeps working in this way they could have a longer lifespan as well,” said Imai in an article written by Ian Johnston on The Independent.

There was, however, a question that was raised about whether or not NMN supplementation could correlate to higher risks of cancer. In the groups of mice that have been studied so far, though, there did not appear to be a difference.

“Some tumor cells are known to have a higher capability to synthesize NAD, so we were concerned that giving NMN might increase cancer incidence,” Imai said in the study. “But we have not seen any differences in cancer rates between the groups.”

More research is still clearly needed at this point, but “phase 1” of a clinical trial to study the safety and effects of NMN in humans is reportedly underway in Japan. The paper points out that “high grade NMN for human consumption” is not available commercially at this point, but there is broccoli for now.

Finding a way to stay young, find the fountain of youth and live a long life is something that many have hoped to find the answers to. If broccoli has benefits that can help people achieve these goals, it obviously wouldn’t be surprising to see the popularity of the vegetable increase — along with cucumbers and avocados for that matter.

AIDS ‘Patient Zero’: Gaetan Dugas’ Name Cleared As HIV Origins Traced In New Study

AIDS 'Patient Zero': Gaetan Dugas' Name Cleared As HIV Origins Traced In New Study

The so-called AIDS “Patient Zero” blamed for introducing HIV to the United States wasn’t responsible for spreading the virus after all, according to a new study published earlier in the week. The study also suggests that AIDS may have been around much earlier in North America than once thought, and in a different part of the country.

For the past three-plus decades, Canadian man Gaetan Dugas had been blamed for America’s AIDS epidemic. Speaking to researchers in the early-1980s, the flight attendant admitted to having sexual intercourse with about 250 men a year between 1979 and 1981. He was initially identified as “Patient O,” meaning someone who resided outside of California, but not necessarily the first documented case of AIDS. The “Patient Zero” moniker, however, spread through a misinterpretation of the “O” as a zero, and according to CNN, media and public interpretation led people to think Dugas was the man who brought AIDS to America, resulting in Dugas and his family being ostracized for years, even after he died in 1984.

Moving back to the present, the new study clears Gaetan Dugas as the alleged “Patient Zero,” instead maintaining that no one could be accurately pinpointed as the person who brought HIV to North America and facilitated its spread from Africa via the Caribbean.

“No one should be blamed for the spread of a virus that no one even knew about, and how the virus moved from the Caribbean to the US in New York City in the 1970s is an open question,” said University of Arizona biologist Dr. Michael Worobey, co-author of the study. “It could have been a person of any nationality. It could have even been blood products. A lot of blood products used in the United States in the 1970s actually came from Haiti.”

In order to more accurately determine the origin of AIDS and look into the “Patient Zero” mystery, the researchers used genome sequencing to analyze frozen blood samples dating back to the 1970s, including Dugas’ own blood sample. Based on what they discovered, the HIV and AIDS epidemic may have begun in 1970 in New York, more than a decade before Gaetan Dugas became a household name. It had then moved from New York to San Francisco circa 1976, with New York City serving as a “hub” for its spread to the West Coast.

As for Dugas, the genome sequencing revealed that there was no biological proof he had first transmitted HIV in America and thereby brought on the spread of AIDS. As such, the “Patient Zero” myth is incorrect, with Dugas’ genome appearing to be similar to those of patients with pre-existing strains of HIV at the time.

Before New York, HIV was believed to have spread from apes to humans early in the 20th century in Africa. According to Emory University Center for AIDS Research co-director Dr. James Curran, who was not involved in the study, scientists theorized that a chimpanzee may have infected one person in sub-Saharan Africa in the early 20th century, before spreading to the Caribbean. The virus may have then hit the United States via Haiti, he added.

Dr. Curran also oversaw the CDC’s AIDS task force in 1981, and it was around that time when Dugas was found to be around the center of a network of HIV-positive gay men across America. Still, Dr. Curran maintains that the public was too quick to assume Dugas was the man who brought AIDS to the U.S.

“The CDC never said that he was Patient Zero and that he was the first person,” Dr. Curran told CNN. “In addition to the potential damage to his reputation, it was also a damage to scientific plausibility. That there would be a single-point source to start the epidemic in the United States is not very likely. It’s more likely that several people were infected.”

As noted on a report from NBC News, more than 1.2 million U.S. residents are HIV-positive, with about 50,000 new cases reported per year. And AIDS is a disease that still has no vaccine and no cure. And as medical researchers continue to work overtime in dealing with the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the debunking of the AIDS “Patient Zero” story, the posthumous clearing of Gaetan Dugas’ name, and the new findings on the disease’s origins are truly a step in the right direction.

Lady Gaga Asks Matt LeBlanc the Ultimate Friends-Themed Would You Rather Question

Fresh off her triumphant Carpool Karaoke session with James Corden, Lady Gaga was in good spirits on The Late Late Show. The pop singer made an appearance Tuesday night alongside guests Matt LeBlanc and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and at one point initiated an impromptu game of Would You Rather. In a brilliant Friends-themed question filled with ominous pauses, Gaga asked, "Matt, who'd you rather: Monica or Rachel?" As the audience got all riled up (and Lady Gaga did a victory dance), Matt coyly answered, "I would have me some Phoebe, she's very bendy." Not only did the answer drive the audience wild, but it's also a callback to an actual line Phoebe says in "The One Where Everyone Finds Out" while she's trying to seduce Chandler! Consider us beside ourselves.

Cuban Lung Cancer Vaccine To Begin Tests In The U.S. [Video]

Cuban Lung Cancer Vaccine To Begin Tests In The U.S.

Lung cancer has long been a major cause of death for American citizens. But now that President Obama has lifted the embargo against Cuba and eased economic restrictions from the tiny island nation, the United States as a whole is about to benefit from it with more than just cigars.

In a report by The Buffalo News, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute has been given the go ahead by the Food and Drug Administration to begin testing the Cuban vaccine that treats lung cancer, potentially making a major advancement in the fight against the disease and possibly brining modern medicine and technology one step closer to eradicating the deadly and debilitating condition.

The Cuban vaccine is known as CIMAvax-EGF and has been proven to be somewhat effective with patients around the world. The modest results have given cancer patients and their families hope, but it is still early in the process to determine if the drug can eliminate the disease altogether.

Currently, the CIMAvax-EGF vaccine has shown to be effective by extending the lives of people afflicted with lung cancer. But as more research gets underway in the U.S., those results could potentially be amplified. Through modern research and studies, the CIMAvax-EGF drug could potentially be engineered to be more effective and that is major step in the world of medicine.

Chemotherapy and radiation for people with lung cancer has seen some successes. But most people diagnosed with lung cancer have seen a morbidly high mortality rate, thus making the disease all that more of a public health crisis over the past century.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo visited Roswell Park Cancer Institute on Wednesday and announced the commencement of the trials.

“This groundbreaking trial at Roswell Park is the result of our historic partnership with Cuba, and is a testament to New York’s storied legacy as a national leader in progress and innovation,” Governor Cuomo said in a statement released to The Buffalo News.

President and chief executive officer of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Candace Johnson, also seemed to echo the enthusiasm of the Governor and shared her expectations with the press on the lung cancer treatment that is expected to be the first of a thriving relationship between the U.S. and Cuba in regards to medical advancements.

“With this landmark clinical trial, Roswell Park, America’s first cancer center, becomes the first American institution to give CIMAvax to patients,” Johnson said. “We’re the first center to get permission to sponsor the U.S. testing of any Cuban medical therapy to bring Cuban science to the United States.”

To make this matter even more effective for Americans that suffer from lung cancer, the paired operation between Roswell Park and Cuba has been authorized by the Treasury Department to establish this joint business venture. This proves that Americans and Cubans are ready to let the past stay in the past and work together for a brighter future for all people.

The CIMAvax lung cancer treatment is something that is quite different than that of chemotherapy. Rather than attempting to kill the cancer cells directly, it seeks out a protein in the human body that signals cell growth. In effect, this process jump starts the human immune system and allows it to do the same thing, just in a more natural way, directly targeting cancer cells and thus preventing the rapid growth of those cancer cells to other organs.

To help get some perspective on lung cancer, the average survival rate is 17 percent, which accounts for all types of lung cancer. But once it spreads, that survival rate gets cut down quite dramatically. This Cuban vaccine seeks to stop that spread and allow for more time to combat the cancer in an isolated area of the body.

You Need to See These Kids Staring at Prince William Like He's Made Out of the Crown Jewels

Prince William took a break from making appearances with Kate Middleton and bonding with his daughter, Princess Charlotte, on Monday to make a solo outing in Scotland. The Duke of Cambridge, who is also called the Earl of Strathearn while in Scotland, visited Stirling Castle on Oct. 24, where he met with children and servicemen to kick off his patronage of the Thin Red Line campaign for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum, which is based in the castle. After being greeted by a group of enthusiastic kids, William dished out high-fives as he asked their plans for their half-term holidays from school. One young boy was photographed asking William for his autograph, while another looked up at him in awe. William also gave a presentation during his visit, which ended up providing the world with a hilarious photo of a man in a painting appearing to rest his hand on the royal's head. William's outing is just the latest in what is shaping up to be the royal family's best year yet.

Watch Tom Hanks Perfectly Recite His Rap From Big 28 Years Later

No human being is perfect, but Tom Hanks comes pretty close. While in Florence, Italy to promote his latest film in The Da Vinci Code franchise with director Ron Howard, Inferno, the actor and wedding crasher hopped in a video with YouTube filmmakers Wesley Chan and Philip Wang, who had one simple request for him: to recite his rap from Big. The 1988 comedy about a young boy who wakes up as an adult after wishing to be "big" at a carnival captured the hearts of many, and he was happy to oblige. Without a second of hesitation, Hanks - who sadly wasn't wearing a pumpkin suit - perfectly broke out the "shimmy, shimmy cocoa pop" lyrics. Impressive as it is, we won't be truly in awe until he performs the piano routine he did in FAO Schwarz. While we wait for that to happen, compare the original rap below with his latest rendition!

The Star of Dubai Opera's Cats the Musical Will Inspire You to Chase Your Dreams

As the star of Cats the Musical - one of the longest running musicals - it might be difficult to believe she didn't attend a prestigious performing arts school like many of the people we see on the West End and Broadway stages. But Joanna Ampil proves that talent doesn't necessary have to be channeled through drama school to make it big. The 41-year-old has been performing for 23 years and has made it to Dubai Opera's 2017 line-up (via London) after leaving the Philippines aged 17.

"I've never had any formal training from drama schools but I've had private tuition from some amazing teachers and mentors," she says. "I got into [acting] by pure accident. I actually started off as a singer. Singing was a hobby of mine.

"Miss Saigon was a major thing in my country and when the creative team came back to the Philippines to look for new cast members for their London production, I tried my luck and auditioned for a whole week complete with dancing, singing and acting. A couple of months later, they told me I was successful in my audition, then flew to London with my mom who accompanied me. The rest is history."

Joanna has also starred in another long-running musical that's coming to Dubai, Les Miserables, and it was then that the performer seemingly had doubts about her career on stage lasting.

"When I was playing the role of Eponine in Les Miserables, I decided to go to college and study PR and Marketing as a sort of fall back. I finished the course but fortunately, I never had to practice it," she explains. Well if that doesn't prove academics isn't everything....

Despite playing the lead role of Grizabella in January 16-25 in the UAE, Joanna has a confession: "As much as I love the show, I'm allergic to cats (not sure if that's helpful)!"

Thank goodness there won't be any real felines around!

Tickets start from AED275, available from www.dubaiopera.com and www.ticketmaster.ae.

You'll Need a Moment to Emotionally Recover From Adam Levine's Sweet Gesture For a Sick Fan

If you needed another reason to love Adam Levine, here it is. On Saturday, Adam made a sick 16-year-old boy's dream come true when he responded to the teen's amazing cover of Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" after he underwent heart surgery. The boy's named is Will Hunt, and he sang the song while in the intensive care unit of Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. In the now-viral video, Will plays the keyboard and sings while sitting next to his dad on a hospital bed. His brother, Mac Hunt, captured the moment and shared it on Twitter on Friday writing, "Currently my 16 yr old brother is dealing with heart failure and is at Vanderbilt Hospital. Just thought I would share @Willhunt190 love u."

After getting a hold of the video, Adam reposted it to his account, and wrote, "It's hard to express with words what it feels like to know you've helped someone in this way. So instead, I'll just share. Nice job kid. :)"

Moments later, Will excitedly responded to Adam, saying, "I can't breath oh my god. Thank you so much I am your number 1 fan. This is CRAZY."

Honestly, the entire thing is so sweet that you might just want to grab a tissue.

Demi Lovato and John Mayer Reportedly Get Close at an LA Club

While the stars arrived separately, sources say that "John had his arm around Demi and was whispering sweet nothings into her ear." No photo evidence of their encounter exists, but an insider reported that Demi "was into it," and although "they weren't making out or anything . . . she was giggling the whole time." Another source claims that the duo "chatted it up for over an hour," and that John gushed about Demi having "one of the greatest voices."
