Watch White's entire set at UK festival, including his nod to "Enter Sandman" in support of controversial headliners
Jack White's Glastonbury setlist looks svelte when compared to the mammoth 26-song performance he dropped on Bonnaroo two weeks earlier, but his Glasto gig did feature one big surprise: A nod to controversial headliners Metallica. The heavy metal gods' selection as Glastonbury headliner was met with skepticism and anger from the British press who questioned how the "Unforgiven" group would mesh with the peace-and-love Glasto vibes. Metallica even sold a T-shirt that poked fun at the criticism, but it was White who delivered the last laugh by treating the crowd to a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman."
Around the 45-minute mark of the below video, during a performance of the White Stripes' "Cannon" on the Pyramid Stage, White and his band tease the Metallica classic. While White doesn't sing any of the track, the riff is unmistakable. While the crowd probably didn't appreciate being trolled by White, Bradley Cooper sure enjoyed it. White's made it a habit recently of weaving some classic rock favorites into his set. Last week in Dublin, White sprinkled Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene," the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog," and Beck's "Where It's At" into his set before the plug was pulled. At Bonnaroo, where Jack performed one of the best sets we saw all weekend, White busted out a snippet of Led Zeppelin's "The Lemon Song" as well as Dick Dale and the Del-Tones' "Misirlou."
