Paul Rudd says he won’t get “too jacked” for Ant-Man

As far as acting chops go, Paul Rudd has what it takes to make the perfect Ant-Man and will likely embody the role of Scott Lang with his trademark comedic stylings. Physically, however, Rudd isn’t the first person you picture when thinking of the word “superhero,” but that’s why they invented Hollywood trainers.

Rudd recently appeared on The Colbert Report, where he discussed his training for the role. Apparently, he’s working on getting in shape but won’t be making a Chris Pratt-esque transformation, and humorously explained:

“I’ve had to kind of try and get in better shape. I don’t get too jacked. It doesn’t make sense for someone trying to be an ant.”

So, Rudd wont’ be sporting any Thor-sized biceps or doing any Oliver Queen salmon ladder routines; but he’s got a good point. Someone whose superhero schtick involves shrinking down to miniscule sizes doesn’t need gigantic triceps, and really it’s Rudd’s performance, not physique, that matters.

What do you think of Rudd’s comments? Do you think Ant-Man should be “jacked?” Sound off in the comments.

Ant-Man is being directed by Peyton Reed, and stars Rudd, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Michael Douglas, Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Michael Pena (Cesar Chavez), and Matt Gerald (Escape Plan). The story was written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, and will undergo scripting rewrites from Adam McKay. The film arrives in theaters on July 17, 2015.
