In a video released by the Global Goals for Human Development, the Spice Girls celebrate the 20th anniversary of their hit 'Wannabe' in the most important way.
In a cool and contemporary remake of the iconic video, women who look like the original five Spice Girls sing the lyrics of 'Wannabe' in classrooms, streets, and markets around the world-- particularly in countries where women typically lack access to basic rights. According to the website behind the video, "Girls and women are disproportionately affected by these challenges and are key to building resilient communities to withstand them. That's why we need to ensure World Leaders and the Secretary General of the United Nations listen to the voices of girls and women and put them first in policies and plans."
The site continues, "2016 is our chance to use our collective power and tell world leaders what we really really want for girls and women." Even former Spice Girls Member Victoria Beckham approves of this new message, posting on her Facebook page, "20 years on - Girl Power being used to empower a new generation. I'm so proud of The Global Goals #WhatIReallyReallyWant."
