Cameron Diaz didn’t have the bang she expected with The Other Woman, which only garnered a measly 24 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the former Charlie’s Angel is ready to get back on her feet and do comedy with the best people in the industry. Cameron Diaz’s movie with former How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel, entitled Sex Tape, is set to open on theaters two weeks from now, and die-hard fans are super excited.
Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Cameron Diaz’s latest flick will be released a week earlier than expected. Diaz, who is reunited with Bad Teacher director, Jake Kasdan, plays one of the leads in Sex Tape, a movie that follows the story of a couple who made a sex tape and discovers that it has gone public.
According to insiders, the reason for the move of the theatrical release is that Cameron Diaz’s movie might be overshadowed by flashier films that will be coming out on the initially intended week. Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules is expected to have an opening of mythological proportions on June 25 while Lisa, which stars Scarlett Johansonn, will be kicking butt on the same week. Because comedy flicks like Sex Tape don’t usually hold themselves well against action titans on the same opening week, Columbia Pictures reportedly decided it would be better to give Cameron Diaz’s movie the limelight a week earlier.
Cameron Diaz’s The Other Woman didn’t exactly deliver what is expected from it despite the all-star cast it bragged about in the trailers. The ever-funny Leslie Mann failed to give enough laughs while Kate Upton’s bazonggas weren’t enough to save the movie. It didn’t even have a tiny glimpse of Game of Thrones glory despite Nicolaj-Coster Waldau being the main antagonist of the story.
Naturally, reviewers were creatively harsh in their reviews for Cameron Diaz’s last comedy. Peter Rainer from the Christian Science Monitor wrote:
Practically every gag in this movie, and there are scores of them, is milked dry. When the gags aren’t very good to begin to with, this is a prescription for disaster.
Richard Brody of the New Yorker:
What begins as a smoothly oiled romantic comedy quickly morphs into a clattery, grinding screwball contrivance
Ouch! Hopefully, Cameron Diaz gets her redemption with Sex Tape. With funnyman Segel on her side and comedy master Kasdan behind the camera, Cameron’s latest movie shows a tiny glimpse of promise for a handful of laughs.
Sex Tape opens on June 18.
