Pharrell Williams Stands Behind ‘Blurred Lines’

Pharrell Williams Rape

Pharrell Williams still doesn’t have any regrets about “Blurred Lines.”

Although the song arrived last year, people are still picking Williams’ brain about the tune’s controversial lyrical content. His collaboration with Robin Thicke definitely caught the world’s attention, though some believe the song is nothing more than a pro-rape message with a good beat.

Despite all the criticisms Pharrell has received as a direct result of the tune, the singer doesn’t feel there’s anything wrong with it. In his opinion, people who are deeply offended by the “I know you want it” line are simply taking it the wrong way.

“Is it sexually suggestive when a car salesman says to a person who’s trying to buy a car, ‘I know you want it’? If I can tell you’re hungry and I say, ‘I know you want it’, does that mean I’m going to rape you?” Williams recently told Channel 4 News .

He added, “Does that make it off limits for me to use it in a song, especially when the overarching context is that there are good women who also have bad thoughts? If a good woman can have sexual thoughts, is it wrong for a man to have a correct guess that a woman might want something.”

According to the Belfast Telegraph, just because Pharrell Williams stands behind “Blurred Lines” doesn’t mean he’s completely misogynistic. In fact, the “Happy” singer feels that the United States could benefit greatly from a woman in the White House.

Pharrell explained:

“Historically, this world has been run by men. What would a world be like if 75 percent of our world leaders and presidents and prime ministers were female? We don’t know because we haven’t given it a shot. We’re too busy telling them what they can and can’t do with their bodies, or we’re too busy not allowing them to make the same amount of money that a man makes. I’m just like producer dude, likes to make music, I love women and when given the opportunity to make my album, that was one of the things that I wanted to touch upon. So that’s what I’m touching upon.”

Pharrell must have felt some heat from the backlash that erupted following the release of “Blurred Lines.” After all, Williams decided to name his recent solo album G I R L. That’s essentially the same as giving your girlfriend roses after a particularly nasty fight that involves some pretty naughty words.
