On "0 to 100/The Catch Up," Drake is in full-on braggadocio mode, rapping "If I'm not the greatest, then I'm headed for it." The song was produced by the rapper's in-house hit-making duo of Boi-1da and Noah "40" Shebib and features two drastically different instrumentals. Midway through, Drake slows down the proceedings with the help of a woozy James Blake sample. The rapper has shown love for the U.K. producer in the past, when he tapped Blake to co-headline his OVO Fest in Toronto last summer. Unfortunately, Blake had to cancel his appearance, but perhaps this latest development means we can expect the pair to collaborate in the future.
And, according to the most tantalizing lyric in the new track, the future is closer than you might think. “Listen up boy you’re better off eavesdroppin’/ We already got spring 2015 poppin’/ PND droppin’, OB droppin’, Majid Jordan droppin’, not to mention me droppin,” Drake raps, hinting that we can expect a new album from him sometime next year. If it sounds anything like this, that is very good news indeed.
