5 Seconds Of Summer Will Be Without Guitarist Michael Clifford For Days Due To Lost Passport

5 Seconds of Summer’s guitarist Michael Clifford could be away from the band for days due to losing his passport.

Michael lost his passport while boarding a plane to the United Kingdom from New York, reports BBC.

His bandmates Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood flew on without him so they would not miss a gig at the 02 Arena in London on Sunday night.

5 Seconds of Summer spoke to BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw and said that Michael is “relaxing in America” while he sorts out his passport issues.

“He’s just relaxing having a bit of Michael time,” added Aston.

Luke stated that it is pretty amazing that Michael managed to lose his passport, “Because our tour manager holds our passports and will give it to us before the flight. Then we’ll have it for maybe an hour and then he’ll take it back off us. In that time he’s lost it.”

“I’ve seen Michael lose a ticket before he gets on the plane, I mean he’s given it in the line and he’s lost it,” Luke added.

After performing Jingle Bells on Sunday the band then lined up to have their photos taken. Ashton mentioned how strange it was performing a big gig with only three members, reports The Daily Mail.

“I hated him not being there it was the worst. It’s just so wrong when you’re in a band and a guy’s not there. It’s almost like you’re betraying him. We were on stage as a three piece and it just wasn’t awesome at all,” Ashton said.

At this time it is unknown how long the band will be without their red haired guitarist. Michael is currently applying to the embassy in the United States for a new emergency passport.

Calum joked with Nick Grimshaw that the group is planning dates without Michael because they do not know where he is.

“We normally have a group text but he’s not in it. We’re making plans so you don’t want to have him it (laughs). Where is he? New York?” Calum said laughing.

“Really, really sorry for anyone who I’ve let down for not being able to come. You get a free pass to call me stupid,” Michael posted on Twitter.

5 Seconds of Summer has another gig scheduled on Wednesday night in Liverpool. Right now it appears Michael will also miss this performance as well.

The band, which is from Australia, recently announced a new UK tour. The Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour will run from May to June 2015.
