During Nick Cannon’s appearance this morning on Good Morning America the star confirmed that he and Mariah Carey have split.
“You and I were just talking, Mariah and you are separated, Christmas is about family first and foremost,” GMA host Lara Spencer said.
“Always focus on family,” Cannon said.
Cannon was on Good Morning America to promote his new Christmas book Roc and Roe’s 12 Days of Christmas. The book is about Cannon and Carey’s twins Moroccan and Monroe.
“We’ll forever be family. At the same time, we’re there for our children, making them the number one priority and understanding they’re loved and can have an amazing holiday.”
Divorce rumors have followed Cannon and Carey for some time now.
E! reports, that a source told them in September that Carey had started the divorce process.
“Mariah has started the divorce process. She’s getting all her ducks in a row,” the source said.
Cannon confirmed the couple’s separation back in August, after being hounded by multiple reports that the two were over after six years of marriage.
“There’s trouble in paradise,” he told The Insider.
At the time Cannon added that they had been living in different houses for several months.
Around the same time, Cannon turned to Twitter to squash rumors of drama surrounding their separation by posting, “I love @MariahCarey and that will never change. So to see false reports in the media stating otherwise is absurd. While I would like to remain silent I can no longer allow this to happen,” reports Cosmopolitan.
Even though they are going their separate ways, Cannon says that he will spend the holiday with Carey and the kids as usual.
It’s always a house full of people and pets and dogs. Christmas Eve we like to have sleigh rides and reindeer. It’s a lot of fun. So when you read the book, everything seems over the top, but it really happens,” Cannon shared.
Cannon said he no longer calls Moroccan and Monroe by their famous nickname “Dem Babies.”
“Now they’re ‘them kids.’ They’re three-and-a-half-years old. They’re full of so much personality I was inspired to write this book. Each and every day with them is crazy,” he laughed.
Cannon and Carey were married back in 2008. The couple’s twins were born in 2011.
Shortly after the wedding, Carey told People in an interview that, “We really do feel we are soulmates. I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me.”
