You're The Worst, Transparent, and Jane the Virgin make The New Yorker's list for Great TV of 2014

The New Yorker's resident TV critic Emily Nussbaum has released her list honoring a great year for TV in 2014. However, she refused to call it a list, and the shows mentioned are not in rank or order.

First, she ranks "some shows that feel new—the ones that shake up the idea of what TV can be. [...] They’re not in order."

- Amazon’s “Transparent.”

- NBC’s “Hannibal”

- Vimeo’s “High Maintenance”

- Channel 4’s “Black Mirror”

- Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black”

- Comedy Central’s “Broad City”

Shows recommended for people looking for drama

- FX’s “The Americans”

- CBS’s “The Good Wife”

- ABCFamily’s “The Fosters.”

- CW’s “Jane the Virgin” (the best new show of the year, if I made lists.)

- Showtime’s “Homeland.”

- BBC’s “Call the Midwife.”

Favorite comedies of the year

- FXX’s “Always Sunny”

- FX’s “Louie”

- FXX’s “You’re the Worst” (the best new sitcom of the year, if I made lists.)
