Johnny Kemp Dies in Jamaica: Singer Was 55

R&B star Johnny Kemp has died at the age of 55, according to reports.

He was found dead floating off the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Police say Kemp, who was discovered on Thursday, was scheduled to be on a Caribbean cruise this week associated with the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

A rep for the cruise company said his death did not take place onboard.

"Passersby saw Kemp's body floating face down in the water" around 9:50 a.m., police said. "Police were summoned and the body removed to the morgue."

No further details regarding his cause of death are currently known.

The Bahamas native is best known for his 1988 smash "Just Got Paid," which 'NSYNC later covered in 2000, and for "Birthday Suit" and "Dancin' With Myself."

Former 'NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick was one of many entertainers who paid tribute to Kemp on social media when word of the tragedy struck.

Samuel L. Jackson and MC Hammer were among others who shared their condolences to his family, calling Johnny a "humble and kind spirit."

Kemp is survived by his wife Diedre and two sons. R.I.P.
