Microsoft announced its acquisition of Mojang for a sum of $2.5 billion on September 15th, but the deal is yet to be completed.

Markus Persson, AKA Notch, who created the game, sold Mojang mainly for personal reasons, saying:

“I can’t be responsible for something this big.”

“It’s not about the money,” he added “It’s about my sanity.”

Microsoft has been less clear with the reasons for the purchase, with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talking of the possibility of getting kids interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields by playing “Minecraft.”

“It’s the one game parents want their kids to play,” he said.
