Mel Gibson is one of the possible candidates to direct Iron Man 4, according to Christian Today. It was reportedly Robert Downey Jr. who pitched the idea to put the Braveheart star at the helm of the upcoming Marvel movie.

Downey Jr. himself has already expressed his interest to star in the upcoming film, but now is taking it upon himself to suggest a director for Iron Man 4. And his best suggestion is Mel Gibson, as revealed by Shane Black, director of Iron Man 3, in his interview with Uproxx.
“And for good reason. Mel was great to him. Mel’s been really nice to a lot of people, including me.”
And Black is very much excited for the upcoming Mel Gibson/Downey Jr. duo in the upcoming Iron Man film. Downey Jr. hasn’t been exactly open about his plans for the upcoming Marvel movie, but he did express his willingness to do one more Iron Man film. Although there has been no official casting information, it’s expected that Downey Jr. will star as Iron Man in several more Marvel superhero movies.
In fact, Downey Jr., who suggested Mel Gibson as director of the fourth installment of Iron Man, has already signed up for two parts of Avengers: Infinity War as well as Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, there has been no official information whether or not a new Iron Man movie is in the works.
It was previously reported that Iron Man 4, which could be directed by Mel Gibson, could be centered around Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. It’s because, in the comics, Paltrow’s character becomes a superhero, so Marvel fans expect that to happen in the cinematic version as well.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival has been rather controversial. And one of the controversies included possible anti-Semitism between Mel Gibson and director Ken Loach, according to Page Six. The Braveheart star presented the festival’s Palme d’Or to Loach for his I, Daniel Blake film.

But in 2006, when Loach was presented with the same award for The Wind That Shakes the Barley, he called for a cultural boycott of Israel. And the same year, Mel Gibson said during a DUI arrest that “the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”

In 2009, Loach went as far as criticizing the Toronto Film Festival for featuring Israel’s city of Tel Aviv for its City to City section. And then the director withdrew his film Looking for Eric from a Melbourne film festival, where Israel was a sponsor.
But according to a Hollywood insider cited by Page Six, it was “blatant and boorish” to have Mel Gibson present Loach with the festival’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes this year.
“It was blatant and boorish… Gibson as the presenter of the Palme d’Or to [a] virulently anti-Israel director.”
60-year-old Mel Gibson cozied up to his 25-year-old girlfriend Rosalind Ross while walking down the red carpet at the Cannes, according to the Daily Mail. But the couple presented an even cuter PDA when they arrived at LAX last week.

Even though Mel Gibson is 35 years senior to Ross, the two looked in harmony and they were all smiles when they arrived back home from France. In January this year, the two debuted their relationship in public at the Golden Globes.
In fact, Mel Gibson and Ross packed on the PDA during their visit to the Cannes this year. Gibson divorced from Robyn Moore Gibson in 2011, after more than 25 years of marriage. The two have seven children together. The director also has a daughter from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
