You didn’t just imagine it, a lot of people were talking about Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at the San Diego Comic Con this year. Warner Bros. also scored big when the director revealed Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman costume.
There is no question the much anticipated sequel to Man of Steel was a big hit at Comic Con, even though there were no real news that came out of the panel, except the teaser trailer. Compared to last year, when Snyder dropped the bomb that Batman would be included in the storyline, 2014 didn’t really have any major announcements from the studio.
According to the research firm Mashwork, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the most talked about film throughout the San Diego Comic Con, with about 73 percent of all emotional reactions from the teaser trailer, dubbing it “amazing”, on Twitter. Additionally, DC Entertainment hit it big on the social media site when they shared the first official photo of Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman costume, which got retweeted 7,000 times. The superhero also received 149,316 mentions.
For its part Marvel came in second with 15 percent of studio conversations, with Avengers: Age of Ultron generating 173,782 mentions. This puts the awaited sequel in fifth place, when it comes to the most talked about films at Comic Con, behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Mad Max, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Another research firm, Way to Blue, states that the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser trailer, which shows Superman facing off with Batman on a rainy night in Gotham City, received 248,960 mentions.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and DC Entertainment beat out Marvel at Comic Con this year and Warner Bros. can thank the brilliant Snyder for it. The director decided to give his main cast, Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) the day off from filming and bring them along to surprise fans attending the panel in Hall H.
To say that people were stunned to see the trio on stage, would be an understatement. Those present, erupted in applause and loud cheers for the stars. Comic Con marked the first time Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were seen in public, following the controversial casting of Batman.
