I am too through and this is just too much for a Tuesday morning.
Remember that homeless mother in Arizona who was arrested and charged with felony abuse over the summer after she left her kids in a hot car while she was in a job interview? And remember when thousands of people, who sympathized with her story, donated over $114,000 to go towards her legal fees and helping her get on her feet when she was released?
Well she’s back in the headlines again and this time we don’t think as many people are going to be supporting her struggle.
Shanesha Taylor, whose crying mugshot went viral, was able to avoid jail time because the judge made a ruling that if she was able to put $40,000 in a trust fund for her kids, he would close her case. She had plenty of people speaking out on her behalf, and a woman in New Jersey even helped Shanesha raise $114,000 for her family. However, NY Daily News reports that not only didn’t Shanesha put any money away for her kids, she spent some of it to help fund her baby father’s rap album and pretty much blew all of the cash.
Taylor, however, failed to put the money in the trust fund by the deadline imposed by the judge, throwing away the “deal of a lifetime,” said her attorney Benjamin Taylor.
Prosecutors charged that Taylor was spending more than $4,000 a month on non-essential items, and now a former supporter of hers says she even spent some dough on a rap album.
“We had someone call my office and alert her attorney to the fact that she spent $6,000 at a music studio in Tempe to finish her baby daddy’s rap album,” Reverend Jarrett Maupin told ABC. “That’s not what people gave her that money for.”
Maupin believes her money may have run out — and Taylor is once again trying to raise cash, according to Fox 10.
“I feel bamboozled and used a little bit, but I don’t regret it because on its face she was what she was,” Maupin told the station. “Everyone had sympathy for her, but what she’s become is something quite different.”
Her attorney told ABC that Reverend Maupin in a bold faced liar.
“I haven’t spoken to [Reverend Maupin] since July 21st. He has not been part of my defense team. Anything he says is libel or slander.”
She also allegedly had jobs lined up for her but never showed up.
We will all know the truth once Shanesha goes back to court next month. SMH.
