Beyonce Encourages Mom Tina After Divorce In New Song, ‘Ring Off’

Solange Tina Knowles and Beyoncé Masquerade Ball

Beyonce is well-known for crafting empowering anthems for women, but “Ring Off” may be her most personal one to date. That’s because it’s all about Mama Tina!

The jumping track finds Bey addressing her mom directly as she sympathizes with the Knowles matriarch about the insecurities and pain she went through dealing with her ex-husband Mathew. But that sadness turns into encouragement as she celebrates Tina’s decision to finally “take that ring off” and find happiness again.

Mama, I understand your many sleepless nights

When you sit and you think about Father

Or how you tried to be the perfect wife

You used to dress and fix your hair

Then you smiled through your tears

In the mirror you would stare

And say a prayer

Like, “I wish he said I’m beautiful

I wish it didn’t hurt at all

I don’t know how I got here

I was once the one who had his heart”

Until you had enough then you took that ring off

You took that ring off

So tired of the lies and trying, fighting, crying

Took that ring off

Oh, now the fun begins

Dust yourself off and you love again

You found a new man now you shine and you’re fine

Like it’s my time, you took that ring off

“Ring Off” ends with a clip from Tina’s incredibly inspiring speech that you can catch here.

And because the icon has to have a little something something for the clubs, there’s ‘7/11.’ Like the other songs it sounds like, the Detail-produced record sounds like it’ll be a big hit at the clubs (and strip clubs!) as an Auto-tuned Bey instructs us to clap that ass like we don’t care!

7/11

Both songs will find placement on the platinum edition of Bey’s self-titled album that’s scheduled to drop this Tuesday.
