Just a few days ago, Ariana Grande posted a tribute to her late grandfather on Twitter after he passed away on July 23.
And now, in a revealing cover story with Seventeen, the young singer once again opens up about a relative, one to whom she isn't particularly close.
Grande says she has fallen "out of touch" with her father.
"It's private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it," Ariana says. "The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that I am made up of half my dad."
"A lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn't like that about myself."
It's been very difficult, but Grande says she "had to accept that it's okay not to get along with somebody and still love them."
The singer, whose "Problem" propelled her career to a whole new level this summer, says she has learned some valuable lessons of late.
For instance, she's now "okay with not having the answers to everything. I feel like for the first time in my life, I'm really okay... Everything used to be such a big deal!"
"Now, I feel I can handle everything that comes my way with a calm energy."
And a lot of what comes Grande's way, sadly, is hate, dating back to a controversy over Justin Bieber kissing her on the cheek last year.
"It's tough to spend some of the most important years of your life in front of so many strangers who want to pick you apart," the artist says of critics.
"Insecurity has been the hardest thing I've had to overcome. I think everyone my age struggles with that because everyone strives for approval and wants to feel loved."
