Photo: Erik Pendzich/REX USA. Even if you're not watching Orange Is the New Black (are you nuts?), it's clear to see Dascha Polanco's a rising star. Though fairly new to the acting world, she's making waves in both film and television. Plus, have you seen the girl? She's straight-up gorgeous. So, when we got a chance to catch up with Polanco recently, we had to bug her about her beauty routine. Those lips. That hair. Her glowing skin. We looked at her and said, "Tell us everything."
Polanco's incredible skin is thanks to her steady use of plant-based butters. "You want me to keep it real? I use real shea butter. I go to Madina in Brooklyn," she told us. "They have real mango butter, shea butter. So, I have pure coconut oil, mango butter, and shea butter. I use all of that — especially in the winter. Coconut oil for my hair, for makeup remover. It’s so good for you." Suddenly, our commute home includes a stop by this Polanco-approved Atlantic Avenue treasure trove.
For her hair, the actress keeps it natural, too. "You know, in the Dominican Republic, we do everything. For the hair? Any type of oil or avocado. Fly oil, I know it sounds weird. Essence of cinnamon is good for your scalp to stimulate the follicles, so we do that, too." And, just like that, our grocery shopping and beauty buys have become one big list.
